Title: Red Head makes the scene in PA
Post by: 56MPG on February 28, 2020, 03:35:12 PM
Picked this EO redhead up today in the Baltimore area - not far from me here in PA. Some of you may have seen it on CL, some of you may have reached out to the seller. She mentioned she had a bunch of interest, and even went to ebay to see what the hubbub was all about. When I picked it up at a storage facility ($73 cash - she was adamant about that) she said her father was a hoarder, and kept storage units filled with all kinds of stuff. She said they had a red Weber growing up, and he must have bought it as kind of a nostalgia thing, but never used it and it's been in the storage unit for more than 20 years. Her dad finally got to  the point where he was ready to lighten the load, and asked her to start selling stuff. I'll post more pics tomorrow, but here's the CL ad as an appetizer.

One dime-size ding on the lid rim, otherwise pristine. Pretty dusty, so I'll give her a good once over and assemble her for the first time ever. Not too many NOS three-wood redheads out there. I was willing to break my all-black kettles vow just this once. After all, it's festive and fun!

$73? Not $70 or $75 but $73?  That kind of shit annoys me when I see ads like that. Sometimes for fun I’ll offer a lower odd number. In this case I would have asked if she would take $67 for it.

I asked her about that. She said she gets more interest when it's an odd number for some reason, and less likely that someone will show up with less money than she is asking, hoping for a sympathy discount.  Whatever, $73 for this one was a fair price. I would have given her 4 20s and called it a day, but was happy to give her "exact change" in this case.

Very nice!  Late 80s I’d estimate.

Very nice!  Late 80s I’d estimate.

EO makes it a '95. Late 80's would have looked pretty much the same though.

@kettlebb  it's a cooker for sure. I want my grandkids to have something to look back on in 50 years and think about all the good times. If we're lucky, this kettle will be in their kid's backyard by then. Either that or it will be a planter and my ashes will be used as compost. Not a bad resting place...

Awesome Marty!  Did you lubricate the thumbscrew one touch sweeps to keep them from rusting? Any clear coat on the triangle or other parts.

That sink is awesome. Would love to have that setup in the garage.

This one will stay under cover when not in use, (garage or barn) so no lube or clearcoat on anything. The last two pics are pretty close to the color - especially when the sun peeks out a bit.
