Well, I finally had time to put the finishing touches on the '75 Chief. I found some paint for the triangle that is almost an exact match for the grill. It is very shiney and awesome!

Harris...that cleaned up really nice. That's a cool grill...BUT, do I see an upside down triangle??????????????? LOL Also, is there a hole on both sides of the front leg?
-
Yah know, in the picture it does look upside down. let me double check when I get home. Yes, the original owner drilled a hole in the front leg. I have no idea why. I am going to fill it in with a touch of JWeld or something like that. ;D
-
so on the front of your triangle, the hook that goes into the leg is pointing down, correct? I wonder if you have a factory defect and the hook is upside on your triangle. Of all the kettles I have, my triangles are flipped. Any photos of your triangle when you had it off during the time you painted it?
-
Yes, the hook is pointing in the right direction.
-
I will take a picture when I get home Jeff. Of all the grills I put together this triangle has given me the most trouble staying in the notch of the front leg.
-
yeah...some pics would be good. I think there might be something wrong with the hook if that's the case. It should be nice and tight in there as you know.
-
Yes, the hook is pointing down and it tends to want to rise up and pop out of the hole. I will get some pics. Maybe a defect??
-
If the hook is pointing down, I think there is some sort of factory defect, or it may have been bent into some weird position by the previous owner. The triangle is upside though as it sits mounted in that photo.

Yeah, I noticed that right off the bat, but was piddling around elsewhere.....something's amiss......don't think it's a defect really
You'll get it figured out, maybe the original assembly was misunderstood & they bent it around to make it fit how they thought it went ?
-
That is a beauty!! That two-tone is quite something. Nice job. :D

On my Redhead, the previous owner did this very thing. I don't want to bend it back to a hook, as I'm afraid it will weaken, then break.

Looks great Harris!!! That chief is on my grail list
Nice touch with the triangle too
-
That is pure awesomeness! Does your Chief have the larger tabs on the bowl vents? I couldn't make it out in the picture. ???
-
Beautiful chief! It's so shiny! Are you planning to cook on this one?
"my kettle is more powerful it will do almost anything."
-
Fantastic Cief. I am looking for one as well.
Question: Are those original wheels for a 1975?
-
Nice job, it's in really good condition.
-
Nice, 26'r Harris! Thanks for sharing
-
Awesome. It is not only great looking, but it is a 26 as well (very high on my desire list). Congratulations.

These brownies are REALLY growing on me. That one is awesome!
-
That is a beautiful kettle! 8)

Yes, and I reversed the triangle. I will blame it on the beer. It does not stay in the leg very well. It has a weird bend to it. :D
-
Yes, the wheels are original. Also, I plan on cooking on it July 4th week.
