Too much damn money.  I haven't used a pellet pooper but I feel I really wanted that kind of ease with smoking I'd just use the oven.  Put some smoke on first then throw it in the oven.  I enjoy barbecue with charcoal and wood.

I’ve done that. Works well and saves coal. I’ve also used a snake several times while I was gone all day at work. It’s never failed me rain and shine. Plus you don’t have to worry about a power outage [emoji12]. But seriously you don’t lol. We are getting together with friends for a smoke fest coming up. The host is a Weber guy too. He said he was charging a $5 dollar convenience fee to any friends needing to plug in lol.

Exciting! If it's for real, it ought to be showing up in stores soon. They'll want it in the store displays for Christmas/Black Friday and in the advertisements.

I think they will capture some market, I have never thought of adding a pooper to grilling, to much fun the kettle way, we have always eaten late, I always have time to get something on the grill

I'm puttin' that at $1499.
Based on how they priced the Summit charcoal, I'll bet I'm not far off.

If this is priced over a thousand this will go the way of the Summit Charcoal grill. 5 to 7 WKC members will buy new 5 to 7 will buy used or deep discounted. I wish weber well on this.

I hope at least 2 different sizes will be offered.  If Weber is only going to offer
one size at one price that will not be much a hard push into the pellet market.
We would all be remiss if we simply ignore the negativity directed to this new offering,
and towards all pellet grills in general.  I know you have to consider your audience,
but damn folks.  The more Weber offerings, the better.

Back last winter, my brother gifted me a Traiger he had gotten for free because he knows of my love of BBQ.  I used it once and honestly disliked the entire experience.  Don't get me wrong, the Traiger is a fine grill and performed as it should.  I did not care of how disconnected you are the process.  Pour in pellets and turn a dial.  I like to tinker and be involved in what I am doing.  There's a pride in knowing my knowledge of how to manage the fire has a impact on the quality of the food.  Its same reason I preferred my old manual Nikon FM2 or Hasselblad 500 vs. auto-everything Nikons I owned.  Maybe I'm a control freak....I like manual transmissions, too!

It was small sample size, but I did cook a rack of baby back on the Traiger the exact same way I do on a kettle, including the same wood species.  The smoke flavor from the Traiger was very mild compared to seasoned chunks.

Just turn it up. My buddy has a pellet grill that he usually has set super low. Very boring. Crank it up and they get MUCH more interesting [emoji12][emoji3]. That’s what I did with some chicken wings and it was pretty fun.

I hope Weber adds some cool innovations.

I'm not a big fan of pellet cookers... but I see plenty of opportunities for Weber to step into the "pellet scene" and apply the decades of experience.

Seriously. Weber has led several innovations in the gas grill market, in the charcoal grill market, and even now in the kamado market.
Let's see what kind of magic they can bring to a pellet cooker.

My initial reaction was an eyeroll... but after applying some logic, I'm much more open-minded about it.

I read something about a vertical auger system. This sounds unique at least as far as compared to traeger gmg and other low end pellet poopers

This is an interesting side view of the unit I came across online... I can’t guarantee it’s legit but seems to match up.

It has been confirmed there are two models - 24" and 36"

- Vertical Auger
- GBS Compatible
- Flavorizer bar setup
- iConnect (iGrill) w/Possible add-on accessory to connect to Alexa etc

Ballpark $1000 USD for the smaller unit, $1200 for the 36"

Not a pellet guy myself but this certainly has me curious... if its a quality unit they could have a big seller at that pricepoint IMO.

My first reaction with this was a huge eye roll, but as I've read more and more about this, Weber would be foolish to not participate in the pellet grill space. As a respected manufacturer and innovator, Weber should have some market share here. While I'm not interested in purchasing one these outdoor ovens, I'm interested in seeing how they differentiate themselves from the competition.

Nice pellet grill. For the price I’d rather buy the charcoal summit.

I think most of us would, but if money and space were not an issue I think a lot of us would have one of these on our deck or patio.  I love to use my charcoal Webers, but they do require more set up time and clean up time.  Because of this I am limited to using them mostly on the weekends (especially after the time change has it dark and cold before 5 p.m.).  Not to mention my wife refuses to use a charcoal grill because of all it entails.

If this truly does hold up and work well with the clean up and usage I imagine it will be pretty popular.  Plus, I imagine about anyone (including the wife) would be willing to use it because of it is set it and forget it until the timer goes off just like the oven.

If they ever introduce one of these things with a side burner I will really be tempted as it would probably complete my grilling needs that isn't satisfied by a charcoal grill.

Even if I had the money and desire, I wouldn't buy the first generation as they'll be working out the kinks. Second generation, maybe.

I probably wouldn't buy the first generation unless it was a hell of a deal.  I would also be a little afraid to buy used in case the electric panel, auger, or heating components were damaged or malfunctioning.

The kettles and gassers are fairly easy to figure out if something is wrong.  This is a totally new animal that doesn't have a wealth of DIY videos and experienced WKCers to rely on if something happens.

With no pellet experience this may be a stupid question.  This says it holds 20 something pounds of pellets.  How much pellets get used for an average cook?  Is this like 5 cooks worth or not even close?

I do not have a pellet cooker but we might not really know until people use the thing in action.  It will really depend on the length of the cook, how hot you cook, and how efficient the cooker is.

Josh, it varies greatly on the size of your grill, how high of a temp you run, weather (particularly wind).  You may go thru 3lbs per hour running higher temps on a windy day.
You may only do 1lb per hour or much less  on a smaller pellet grill running 225 on a calm day.  Buying pellets on sale, typically will cost you about the same to cook with as KBB on sale.

Dave, I take it you have some experience with pellet grills, any recommendations on what brand of pellets to use?

I am a loyal Lumber Jack user.   Char-Hickory preferably, but I do
mix in cherry w/ brisket.  My wife actually has more experience with
this grill than I do.  It is so easy to use.  When I have the time, I would
rather tinker around with my WSM on a lazy weekend, but she can easily
throw on a packer brisket early in the morning before work on the
pellet grill.  She comes home for lunch, wraps in butcher paper,
puts it back in the smoker and we get to enjoy fresh smoked brisket on
any random weekday.

I wonder why Weber isn't including the GBS grate in the US?

Maybe the GBS system is more popular overseas?  When is see it in use in the US it is usually just taken out for a wings Vortex cook or someone will throw a Lodge dutch oven in there.  Neither of which allow Weber to make more money.  People just tend to use their own cast iron rather than Weber branded inserts.
