Title: Faux Gen4 Performer Table
Post by: DrewZ on August 29, 2017, 08:56:03 AM: I picked up a sage OTP, with the intent of ultimately transplanting it into a non-assist SSP cart. Rather than plunk down $70 for real Gen4 table, I bought a can of rustoleum "black stainless steel" spray paint as an experiment.

First a little chip repair:

After three coats, it looks anywhere between graphite and metallic black depending on how the light hits it:

I also switched the hooks to the left side. Next up, the updated lid bale and a different lid handle . . .

Thanks. I've had some less than quality rattle can results in the past, so I give credit to the can.

This is what I used to fill the chip/crack. It cured fast and sanded easily. Only time will tell how it holds up.

Post by: DrewZ on August 31, 2017, 05:05:42 AM: Cooked on it last night with a big pile of coals banked to the table side. No ill effects to the paint. Installed the updated lid bale and swapped out the handle for the newer one from my WSM for a better match with the table and lid rollers.

No chips or anything. Stained and well.... weathered. However the original owner didn't take off the big 8 x 10 vinyl sticker off of the table. I pulled it off and it looks GREAT where the sticker was. All purty n such. However the rest of the table is weathered. I don't want to spend 70 for the table either. I tried scrubbing and wet sanded a very small patch. No luck. other than replacing a completely functional table, I am turning to paint.
