Post by: Tim in PA on May 01, 2013, 05:39:02 AM
Is there anything on the web that shows the different models through the years with the acronyms?

As far as telling the age of your kettle? Thats all right on this site if your looking for that info. Go to the homepage and its on the top center  i believe.

Nah, not necessarily age.

I want to know what everyone is calling a OTG or MT ect. It seems like each model has a common name that you all call them. I'm just trying to learn them. If I could put a picture to the acronym, it would be really helpful.

Or that cool catalog with the Easterner, the Texan, the Statesman, etc...I've seen that around the web somewhere and it is cool.

The main acronyms I know are:

SJS-Smokey Joe Silver (standard 14")
SJG-Smokey Joe Gold (14" with side lid vents and a locking lid/lid bale)
SJP-Smokey Joe Platinum a.k.a. Jumbo Joe (18" portable with locking lid/lid bale)
OTS-One Touch Silver (18.5 or 22.5 kettle with the pie plate ash catcher and the One Touch (the y shaped ash sweeper as opposed to the daisy wheel vents)
OTG-One Touch Gold (18.5 or 22.5 kettle with the ash catcher bowl attached to the One Touch system)
SSP-Stainless Steel Performer (older performers with stainless steel side table)
WSM-Weber Smokey Mountain (18 or 22.5" bullet smoker)
MT-Mastertouch (22.5" kettle with a lid thermometer, lid bale and One Touch Gold system)
RK-Ranch Kettle (If you have to ask, you aren't ready).

I'm sure I'm missing a couple.
