I think what @TD might be talking about is the placement of the vent to the handle?
Late model premium grills ( 2 bowl handle + ash pan ) had the vent 90 den from the handle and MT grills had it moved to 180 deg with the thermometer on the other side.
I'm not sure about the years this was done here in Europe but I think it started around 2010-11 ?
You "could" say that with the vent and t-meter 90deg from each other and the indirect fire on the opposite side.. you might have a better temp reading away from the heart of the fire ?
This assumes that the $10 thermometer is laboratory quality and correctly calibrated .
Now I'm confused .. I need another drink.

yes he means in the US the vent on the taco handle is positioned like a standard 18 is parallel and in euroup they are placed as a standard 22 vent is , in series with the handle

I've done already 400 miles roundtrip twice to pick up a kettle but 600 is simply too much 😏

To be fair this is a 2012 model, I think the US was not yet using a taco and they were still welded. So to be clear this is a much older model when the handles were still facing that way. I believe the change was made in 2015 to the current configuration. So maybe they don't hate us much as you think....and yes I may drive 300 miles to get this...

I get your point, but here in Europe we had the taco long before USA did.
Europe also has to pay WAY more than you do for EVERY Weber item.
Europe will never see the new RED MT that is coming out this year.
Even simple small items like the Weber potato nails.. not for sale in Europe :-(
I agree 110% with the idea that Weber should sell every item in every land in the world!!
Wake up WEBER ! I would spend a lot more money IF the items were sold in my current home country!

It's just that I cook with the vent towards the front leg of the kettle. When I pick up the lid, I can hold it with the handle vertical and not stress the handle sideways. With the new handle you would have to turn the vent towards or away from you 90 degrees for the handle to be vertical. Only other option would be to keep the lid dangling horizontal when you pick it up. Holding the lid vertical with the handle sideways is asking for cracked porcelain at the handle. The lid can be slid off the kettle onto the hook without putting all the weight on the handle. Just got to get a routine. I hang the lid on the back of the kettle. I guess it could be the "right way" if you got one of them kettles with two handles. But it is a departure from the way the handles were oriented with the vent for a long time.
