Hi i am new
I have readed so many ,and heard so many
Some says the heat in the lid is hotter 50degree than the grate
And some says heat in the grate is hotter than the lid
Which one is true?
And how much the heat usually differ??
Thanks

Yes, the lid temp in always gonna be hotter... heat rises. By how much? I don't know.

Yep hot in the lid. Unpredictable results using the lid thermometer. It's a great thermometer but you can only use it as a guide. Say if you want to smoke or cook something at 250 degrees for maybe 5 hrs like ribs. You will not have any idea of the temp on the meat. If your lid leaks, it's even worse.
Of course we are talking indirect heat which is why you would need a thermometer in the first place.

For direct grilling the radiant temps
at grate level will undoubtedly be higher.
Even the convection currents caused by a
hot indirect fire can provide significant browning.

There's a whole lot of "it depends" in the correct answer.
Heat doesn't rise; hot air does, however.
Heat radiates from the combustion source.
The difference in temperatures at the dome vs grate will depend on your fuel arrangements. Sometimes they'll be equal, sometimes dome is hotter, sometimes grate can be hotter.

Good analogy Troy. I agree.
