Title: My 26" Performer XL
Post by: robert-r on April 24, 2017, 09:50:03 AM
Well.... the Performer XL is pretty much finished (almost).

Need to workout the lid/cover for the burner (waiting for some ebay neodymium magnet discs to arrive) & paint.

A few pix to compare it to my Performer:

I really like this one:

Very nice work. Robert. I really like the hinge for the lid, and of course a side burner on a performer is perfect. [emoji106]

This is crazy good.

I love that burner.

Very cool that it has a Summit look to it.

Another member modded a Performer frame to fit the 26" kettle too,  Looked really stock.

When will you begin taking orders??!!!

Well.... the Performer XL is pretty much finished (almost)

Yeah, right   :)

One of the coolest group of mods I have ever seen on a performer!  So much functionality in this project - I especially appreciate your hinge locks for the swinging table.  That looks very sturdy.

Post some pics of that side burner in action when you get a chance!

That is one cool kettle....

operating instructions for side burner : place chimney on burner .open lid and remove grill . place now white hot coals on grate  caution keep young chldren and  small pets at least 1 metre from burner intake . lol all kidding  aside spectacular engineering looks like something you'd see in a weber restaurant .

Thanks dudes!

Did some more work on the burner cover:

How it works: place the cover, tabs down & fit into the slots. Rotate the cover to "lock".
The fins on the burner act as a support for the cover & also limit how far the cover will rotate left or right.

Am in the process of painting it. Hope to be cooking with it in a few daze.

Everyone, thanks for the positive replies! I really appreciate the feedback.

Got it painted. Used only the finest quality Rustoleum Gloss Black, Hammered Silver & High Heat BBQ Black.
Rolled most of the paint - only sprayed the silver where a roller or a foam brush wouldn't do the job.

Still a few things to do: some hooks to hang utensils, make a "base" to secure a propane tank & etc.

For some reason... I came up with $85 - $ 90 for parts at ereplacementparts.com. Will double check my homework.

That's a good idea regards the gas go anywhere. Thank you! Is it basically like the gas assist on a Performer?

It's now an XL Touch-N-Go.

Picked up a used Performer with Touch-N-Go and a busted plastic table for $100. Replaced the bowl & lid (several Oh S*** moments - you know how that goes) on my Performer (went from green to black) & used the gas assist for the XL. Sold what was left for $70.

Getting there..... gotta work on a cover for it.
