Title: Rookie Question
Post by: webbc1x on March 31, 2017, 08:56:50 PM
I am looking to get my hands on my first non-hardware store bought kettle.  I found a 22 in Sam Adams kettle in blue and before going to pick it up I wanted to make sure you can cook on them.  I seem to remember reading in the past that the American flag kettle I'm sure most of us have seen was painted and couldn't be used to cook.  On the other hand I think I've seen some pics of a member cooking on a Homer Smokey Joe.

Thanks!

That American flag kettle apparently isn't a Weber. The Sam's and other logo kettles definitely are Weber cookers.

Not all but most of SA come with a custom SS or CI cooking grate. Definitely get it if you like the Blue.

All logoed grills are good to cook on. Those designs are fired right into the enamel. Those American flag grills were painted display models.

The flag kettles are 100% original Weber but they are custom painted or vinyl wrapped so you can't cook on them.

She made it home!  I guess I'm going to have to start drinking more Sammy Adams.  Didn't come with one of those fancy grates but at $50 bucks still worth it unused.  Had pizza planned for today anyway so that gonna be the first cook!  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/0a0595dd8ef08f36f3d004146638cedb.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/b8a7a8cd7c42a20bb004900a34869a4a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170402/eba780da5401dbb8d483ac1a0516a827.jpg)

Thanks!  Yes, it was.  Him having it listed as a 22 was my bargaining chip.
