Title: Another Cast Iron Grate option....
Post by: WhaleinaTeardrop on June 28, 2016, 04:27:40 PM
I've been flirting with buying the Napoleon grate for the past few summers and finally pulled the trigger.  I ordered it from Bed, Bath and Beyond thinking I could use the 20% off coupon, but Napoleon doesn't discount so I paid full price of $70.  Shopperschoice.com has it for the same price and they will prob ship a lot faster.  Will break it in this weekend and report back....

That is a sharp looking grill. I like the larger hinged areas.

Looks like outer pieces are modular and you have the two handles in the middle to lift out the entire grate. I like the sway of the bars. Very cool. Please update. Not that it matters, but, pre seasoned??

Yes, it is pre-seasoned and the hinged areas lift out completely if needed as well.

Wow.  This is a really cool grate.  The hinged area is much larger than other options, making it way easier to add coals durring cooks.  Not to mention the handle location being out of the way for refueling as well.

Nice looking grate.

Just read the fine print of my BB&B coupon.

"Napoleon Grills" are excluded      :P

Don't want to say I was exactly skeptical, but I didn't necessarily see all the hoopla over cast iron grates....but I must say that I am now a convert.

This thing ROCKS!

A few pics of my 12 oz. burgers; my intention was to make 8 oz. burgers, but I figured I'd lose 2 oz. in fat and water and it just kinda mushroomed from there....(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160705/23b7010995c8a123f28f92c794cd4aca.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160705/83d52f7fa07043f7a30f43abb2bf765c.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160705/bc0f2ed7bca3bd00b41d1327142125f8.jpg)

The "space" in the grill marks is due to the dimple  that I always put in the burgers....and they weren't even on the hot side!

Another plus is that small vegetables have less tendencies to fall through the spaces in the grate....(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160705/a2ba00da1abfee1e564662716e71ea55.jpg)

That makes a lot sense...the wavy grates don't give the veggies a long straight slot to fall through!

OK, you've had this for a little while now, what's your opinion of it?  Tell us the pros and cons. How well does it fir a 22 inch Weber?

After you dump your lit chimney and drop the grate in place, how long does it take the hot coals to get the cast iron up to searing temp?

Just ordered one from Lowes.ca. It's also save the tax for a few days. Free deliver too. Can't wait.

Just ordered one from Lowes.ca.  Saved about $10 on taxes.  Save taxes is on today till coming Sunday. You can also order from Homedepot.ca.

Seems to be a real nice CI grate I am willing to try it out.  Sometimes I use 20" Akorn CI grates or  Lodge Sportsman CI Grates on top of Weber 22" grate.  This will be lot sleeker aesthetically.

Thanks to OP, Darko, and fdeange for the info.

I ordered on yesterday. Expected delivery date is Aug.4 or 12.  >:(  Anyways, I don't really care. I think the price is good at $69.98 out the door Canadian dollars. Shipping included.

I was looking for some reviews on this CI Grates and found interesting features on the Grill itself.  Check out this 2 videos.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH2-aUSbXmY  and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzMNQHJ6Rr8

Napoleon Gas grills are highly regarded as Weber here in Canada, but did not know anything about their charcoal grills.  I may have to get one to try out if I can swing one for just over what I paid for CI grate inself.  I am a true Weber guy but I don't shy away from other brands that are interesting to me.

No, it's part of the main grate. The hinged ends sit on it for support.
