Guys, I have an old, rusty Weber kettle grill that I think is from 76-77. I want to repaint it lime green. However, I'm not really sure where to get some lime green paint that can withstand high temperatures. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This place seems to have high temp color paint.

Thank you, I'll check that out

Been wrong before but from everything I have seen and read on this site I don't think there is any paint that can withstand high temps. If it is near the heat it'll turn black.
-
Right, and that's what I've read too. I might just have to accept its rustiness. What about a clear coat?...maybe I can glorify its rustiness. Would a clear coat turn black?

I'd just clean it. Then season the rust spots with bacon grease/vegetable oil followed by some heat.
-
Forgive my stupid questions...but I should probably sand down the rust spots?

We're getting ahead of ourselves. What color is it and why aren't there pictures in this thread?
-
It's in so bad of shape that I don't even know what color it is. I just took it to my local welder to get the legs repaired. I think I have some pics on my old phone at home, will try to post when I get there.

OK, I have to ask. If it's in that bad a shape, why are you even bothering to fix it? Looking forward to seeing the pics.
-
Because I think it's cool lol. It was free, so I don't have a lot of $ invested in it. I just like the fact that it's that old.

I think I'm leaning toward the idea of glorifying it's roughness.

No need to "lol". It's a known fact that older is cooler. Plus beat is better.
-
No worries. Have fun with it!

Was it lime it begin with?
-
I don't know....I just know they made them in lime green back then, so that's what I was going for. I have no idea what color it was to begin with

Do you have any pictures?
I'm not trying to be a dick, but; How can you not have any idea what colour it is/was?
-
I have pics on my old phone. Its very rusty and faded. If I had to guess I'd guess gray.

Did they even make gray back then?

Probably a faded black.
-
Maybe. The only color left is rust and gray,

That looks great! Keep it as is, get some handles from Brian for the lid.
-
That was my plan. One of the wheels busted since that pic was taken. So I'm thinking about getting new wheels, and shining up the legs. What do you think?

That cooker is cool with a whack of character. It's a faded black. I'd clean up the legs and triangle a bit but leave some fade to match the weathered cooker. If there is a good seal between lid and bowl that baby is a low and slow machine.
-
What do you mean "busted"? Got a pic?
-
The outside part of the wheel has disconnected and from the center...its in two pieces now.

I got nothing. Perhaps others have a way to fix it.

That's a great grill with a lot of character. I like the idea of leaving it as is.
The wheel seems like something that you should be able to glue back together. If you decide to put something newer on there let me know. I could use a wheel of that vintage for a restore I'm working on. I'll see what I have that is newer and we could trade if you'd like.
-
I will definitely keep that in mind. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with it. The bottom vents are in bad shape, and I actually want to make it in usable condition...so I'm thinking about replacing those as well. Would it work if I bought replacement vents, say from a smokey mountain?

Post some pictures of the vents. They might be salvageable. There are lost of experts around here that will have some advice if they can see what you are working with.
I remember a post where someone used a new set of smokey mountain cooker daisy wheels and cut the tabs to make them look like the old style vents. I can't find the thread anymore, was it you @Craig?
-
I will do that. I have the bottom part of the grill at my buddy's welding shop right now getting repaired where the legs go in

I just ordered a new handle from Brian....I'm pretty pumped about that.

That thread does help out @Neil_VT00. Especially with figuring out what to do with the vents. I will have to take a look at the wheels. What kind of wheels do you have?
