Curious if any of you kettle-heads are into the Weber bullets.

Had two of em.    :(

I want to grab one again, but probably the 18" version as it's smaller.....or make a mini.

I thought about adding the mini, but technically that's not a full blown Weber product.
I've got paint curing on my build as we speak.  Aman will be pleased with the design.  :D

I had mine in action yesterday during the Blizzard of '13

I own 10, yes, 10 - 18.5" WSMs. 9 are in my possession, one is on permanent loan to a part time assistant cook.

The first WSM I bought is also the only documented "B" WSM. I have a "C" also.

Can I help y'all with questions or anything?  8)

I've got a 22 and a mini, love em both. Stopped at a Mexican grocery store last week and saw some different size tamale pots, 40, 54, and 60 quart maybe. I need to measure my SJP and go see if one would fit it. Come to think of it somebody needs to measure their 18, I think the SJP is a little different from it.

I have to admit to wondering why 10 18.5 WSMs. Since I bought mine in '09 I don't think that I've seen ten on CL so I'm guessing that you bought most, if not all, new. Are you cooking commercially? If so, wouldn't 22.5s be more suitable? Or one big custom smoker?

I just love 18.5" WSMs. Nothing more to it than that.

Nope, every single WSM I have was a CL or garage sale score. In fact, of the Webers I have now, not a single one was purchased new. I like to think of the Wyocena Yacht Club as a shelter, a haven if you will, for orphaned or neglected Webers.

I cook competitively, but not commercially. I use 4 WSMs at comps, the rest just sit in the shed where, from time to time, I sit and admire them.

I know, I'm a freak.

Which is why I'm here.

You must have some pretty good CL-foo to find all of those WSMs! And it must be some haven.Perhaps they are attracted to that area.

And yes, you fit right in!

Is the SJP an 18" SJ? That's all I could find on Amazon. SJS and SJG are 14"

Is that pot 18"? I think it fits a 14" kettle.

I already have a Pro Q Stacker. It fits tight in the SJP. I cut a few notches in it, still tight. WIll try a few more when I get time. I don't really need one for the SJP, just would be cool to do. I have seen a lot of differnet tamale pots in all kinds of sizes, so I may just get lucky one day. Thanks!  8)

I purchased an 18.5 that came with the BBQGuru Competitor off craigs.  It's an '06 and the previous owner must have never smoked or scrubbed it clean.

A couple weeks ago just missed a used twice 22.5 for $125.

Well I don't own any. Today was out and about(Rains and a foot of snow on the ground), looking for Weber deals. Saw my first 22" WSM, they are a rocket ship! You could put everything in the fridge in it and still have room to spare for more. Was impressed, but I don't think I could afford the stock it would take, to do a smoke in one...

I would love one! I suspect that Weber didn't sell enough to justify keeping them in production. There are rumors that they'll bring it back, but if you extrapolate price to today's prices they would be about $225US and I'm not sure they would sell at that price point when you can put together a Tamale pot mini for about half that.

I found a 2008 18.5 WSM last year for 85 bucks. I do love it-- it is just the thing for long slow smokes. But the more I use the kettles, the more impressed I am with their versatility.  The cover stays on the smoker more and more these days.

So close, but yet so far...  I'm 3rd in line - meaning - not a chance in hell.   :(
This is on Craigslist for 50 bucks!
I'm getting closer to matching Hank's photo.   ;)
.
Although I have never used this smoker, the unit does have some rust on it (see the photos). The charcoal grate has significant rust, but it could be used as is or one could purchase a replacement grate from Weber (you might even be able to buy a replacement charcoal grate from Lowe's or Home Depot). There is also some rust around the rim of the top kettle.

Although not pretty, you could use this unit as is and be fine.

I also have a cover for it and the original assembly/owner's manual.

A common issue with the 22" is people say that leaks. Mine does leak and it's annoying to control tems below 250. How badly does it leak? Look at this official Weber picture and see for yourself!

Yeah. The door opening is so large and the door is so flimsy that the single handle has trouble keeping it tight against the midsection. I have also heard good things about the Cajun Bandit door.

For all of that smoke pouring out, air has to be coming in somewhere. The places where that happens is either the bottom vents or the joint between the base and middle section. The bottom vents close pretty well and I have run a bead of high temperature silicone around the bottom groove in the middle section.

It made it possible to control temperature. I also fiddled with the door to get the best fit possible. When I got my 22 I did the same thing. Since the tube of silicone was starting to harden, I used it up by doing the top edge as well. In spite of that, I get smoke leakage at the top edge and door.

Please note that this was immediately after I closed up the smoker and before I put any meat on. Usually I can get meat on within ten or fifteen minutes but for this smoke it took over half an hour before it settled down and I could put the meat on. I had no difficulty keeping temps between 225 and 250°F.

I'm pretty sure that's  why mine doesn't want to naturally run under 250 for very long, doesn't bother me though I just work with it.

Yeah, mine runs at about 270 with the bottom vents just cracked and the top vent wide or even half open.
