Not even close to a buyer at MSRP, but i was checking it out - that 3 legged frame frame design for the grill is kind of macho. Could be fun to do a mod with a 22 on the tripod frame. if it won't fit or you cant buy just the frame, it would be cool to cobble together a look-a-like.

I'm on the fence.  Grills/cooking/food/booze is where I splurge as it's what I'm passionate about.  At least once a month I have 12+ and a few times a year I have 20+ people over for cookouts.  But I'm just not sure the value is there for what this product offers.  I think I might wait a year or so and see how this plays out.  I'm not a big consumer of cars, electronics, clothes...I just like to cook and I like to cook on Weber products...so who knows.

Ummmmmmm NOPE...I'm really partial to vintage. Call me simplistic,  but id rather reload an old 3 wheeler or my WSM and drink another cold one while waiting for the temp to recoup.
Well that, and I'm a tightwad (fiscally prudent).

No. Way too much bang for the buck, and too much fun with kettles. The fuel effiency thing just doesn't impress me with the new grill or any kind of kamado.

I can buy an awful lot of charcoal for $2000.

Considering the ssp retailed for 550 approximately...

I read the specs and it is an upgrade from the current performer.... .guess we will have to wait for the first user reviews to hit online..to obtain a performance review

The new kettle design must have some deep costs embedded in it...

Waiting for the reviews from the bloggers to hype it up on why I need it.

I'd consider the non table model until I see the grilling center up close. The wire racks and plastic bin look cheesy to me. I would place the Weber Kamado opposite of my SSP kettle and call it a day.

For me the better comparison for this grill is a 26.75" kettle. As they say in the car world- "there is no replacement for displacement" or in this case, grilling area. I'm wondering if a 26.75" kettle with mods like heat shield, additional vents, Roti/stacker, etc.  would get me the functionality I would want from the Weber Kamado. The cost is less of an issue if it will meet my needs and provide more enjoyment.

I don't think you need it.  8) Your cooker projects have so much soul and I know you inspired the Weber R&D team.

No.  I can't afford the pricing and between the 22" kettle and the 22" WSM as well as a camp stove and a large propane single high BTU burner (charcoal means no sideburners, so that's how I worked around that problem), my outdoor cooking needs are already well taken care of.

If I had that kind of money to spend, what I'd most likely spend it on would be putting up a gazebo with a nice patio set under it to better enjoy cooking and eating outside with the the grill and smoker I have now.

i'll never buy one at msrp unless I win the lottery. i'd like to have one since I kinda dig on the kamados and am a weber fan, but msrp is too rich for me.

^^^ What Mr bill said.^^^
I like it, but don't need it.
I don't have that much cash tied up in my whole collection. Way too many things that I would need to spend that money on first.

No even if I could afford one. I would buy a ranch kettle if I was even thinking about spending some big coin.

@pbe gummi bear the first thing I thought when I saw the diffuser plate was how awesome that could work in a 26er.  I thought you could place it on a couple of charcoal baskets...it could be sweet.

Totally. Some pizza pans and 2 dollars of hardware is all you would need! In fact, I made a similar diffuser for my Traeger this weekend out of a stainless 1/2 size hotel pan and it works extremely well. Cost me less than $15.

I'll buy one on Craigslist for around $200 in 2022 or so... notice a chip in the lid not pictured and offer $150...

I think it looks kinda wierd with the table...

I also think I could buy a 26 & a 22 and put one in the other... Then buy a Keg and 100 lbs of meat.

I was always a buy the research the hell out of every new product kind of guy and not very handy.
I can't recall getting the satisfaction that I've received from restoring a cheap wooden table I found at a yard sale to use as a grill prep station and then the fixing up of the 2008 Kettle that was banged up and now the Craigslist Performer that was purchased for $75 and cleaned up real nice.

I don't begrudge anyone that lusts after the SCG but a $800 plus grill/smoker not what my passion for BBQ is about and WKC and the obsession with checking in here probably has a lot to do with that.

No way to justify that price. Maybe in 10 years when they are "cheap" on craigslist...

Love to have it but way way out of my price range. Let's see for 2400$ I could buy
12 -22.5 OTG ! This grill is like the normal Joe buying a Rolls Royce to go to the store
To buy a container of milk..

No, I would not buy at MSRP.
It is an intriguing design, but with what I already have it is not needed nor wanted.

Not at that price. I have an 18" Gold a 22" Stainless Steel Performer a 26.75" Gold a 22" WSM a Smokey Joe and a ES-330 Genesis. In the winter I use a little more charcoal when its 45 outside than in the summer when its 95. As it is right now I don't even use the Performer that much anymore. If I am cooking 1 or 2 steaks I use the 18" if I am cooking for the whole family I use the 26" and if I am smoking a brisket its the WSM. I just can't see $2300 for it. I guess I am holding out for a wood fired pizza oven.

No way for that price.  I can get a much better cooker for $2k that will do more.  I will just build a 26" Performer and be done with it.

why are the poll question and the thread title question different?

No, but I would buy the rapid fire lid damper and put it on my regular kettle. But I know they won't sell.

Ditto!

No, I have a 22 for smaller cooks, my workhorse 26, and a 22 WSM for large gatherings.  All for less than the lower priced SCG.  I see some nice things on the SCG I would love to transplant to my 26 (like that top vent) but I like the setups I have now.

But if one pops up on CL in the next year or two for less than $1k, I will definitely be tempted.

Neither.  I might at half MSRP, but that's not likely to happen.

I would not buy this or anything else with a substantial price at MSRP. MSRP is almost always higher than you see in stores even on brand new products. Maybe the group that bought Weber set the MSRP at higher than normal level. They can get the big bucks early from the high end status oriented consumer who has to have the latest greatest thing. This will create a higher perceived value of the product. Later when the price is lowered, they can appeal to the value oriented consumer by saying it has MSRP of xxxx and used to sell for xxxx, so now at xxxx you are getting xx percent off.

Sorry the poll title is different. I added the poll as a way to log votes but I misread the title of this thread as which one will you buy?.  If it were labeled "are you gonna buy one at msrp?" then the answers would be a resounding NO. I can remove it if it's not useful/relevant.

I buy lots of shit I don't need simply because I want it, if one was around here I'd certainly go look at it kick the tires and if I thought it was something different and fun I might pull the trigger.

I got to believe the price will need to come down. After looking at the grill in person there are so many parts used that come from the performer grill. This has to be a huge money maker for weber I'll bet somewhere near 50% profit. I will not be buy one at anywhere near retail and $400 more for that table are you kidding me. They should have made it the size of a ranch kettle not just 1 1/2 inches bigger than the 22.5 grill.
I'll be sticking with my fresh rebuilt SS performer.

When I was reading the contest rules for the SCG giveaway on Webers Facebook page I noticed the terms had the value estimated at $1499. I contacted them about the difference and the response I got back was:

Quote from: Weber Support
Hi Jeffrey! Thanks for reading the details of the fine print!  The MSRP for the grill is $1699 but you can likely find it at retail for $1499. Thanks and have a great day![\quote]

So it sounds like they are expecting to see it street price for a couple hundred less.

I prefer the one without the table, but would not buy at MSRP. Not anywhere close. Would have to be well under $1k for me to consider.
