Title: Metal Performer Table Upgrade
Post by: gunner on November 22, 2014, 07:30:53 AM
I decided to upgrade my plastic performer table to one of the new 2015 metal performer tables. I called up Weber and asked to order part# 65189. The CSR asked me which one of my grills it was for (I have a bunch of grills registered but I don't have a 2015 Weber). I told him it was for my 2006 performer and he seemed kind of confused. I told him I had called earlier in the week and had gotten the price from another rep, but didn't have the funds at the time to order it. After a bit of searching, he found the part # and didn't ask anymore questions. Score! It was $76.00 out the door. Kinda pricey but I think this thing will last a long time. (It seems super solid)

It showed up this week all packaged up nice and secure.

First thing I noticed is it didn't have the extra support bar that Brian's has? I thought that was strange. It also doesn't have the screw hole to screw in the wire that holds the charcoal bin. I will have to rig something up I guess? Not a big deal. It also came with nice and new black screws to bolt the table down.

After with the new metal table
(http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4cf03b3127ccef7f9d5b92e7200000030O00AauGbFk0ZuGQPbz4U/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00208342138520141122155552570.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/)

I think the dark grey metal really makes the grass green kettle pop!
(http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4cf03b3127ccef7f9eaa3efdf00000030O00AauGbFk0ZuGQPbz4U/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00208342138520141122155603349.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/)

I am pretty happy with the upgrade.  ;D It is pricey, but I think worth it if you have the extra dough and looks really cool. I think it would look REALLY good on a black or blue performer!  ;)

This new metal performer table would make a really side table project for any 22.5" kettle too. Got me thinking now.

Update:
There is a screw hole for the charcoal bin wire on the table. DOH! I just missed it when I opened the box and installed it. The hole is on the curve of the table on the under side. I hooked it up and the old screw and wire fit perfect. Thanks for all the kind words! I like it a lot too.. ;D

Yes, it's the Crate and Barrel green. Weber calls it "grass green".

I was going to point that out, but you caught it. :)

That green grill really looks great with the dark metal table.

I thought I would resurrect this thread to let everyone know that Weber has dropped the price on the metal Performer table to $38.04.  With tax and shipping, the total comes to $48.31 - a real bargain!  I just ordered one.

Excellent upgrade. (And nice price drop!). I'm so glad Weber made the change. I don't like the thermoset, even on my 2010 Platinum. Just like the change from wood handles to "glass" ones, I thought it was cheesy of them to lose the SS.

Just got off the phone with Weber and the price was $63.20 with $7 shipping.  You sure the metal table you ordered was not the smaller one for the performer silver? If not I would say you might have gotten lucky.  That price seemed really cheap considering the price of even the plastic one.

Yep yep, it depends on the CSR.  Price is still listed at $63.20 but there are ways the CSR can get it down to $38.04.    Don't know if it's based on the number of grills that you have.  Or if you had some problem in the past and they put a "be nice to this guy" flag on the acct or what.

If you want to invest the time, give the CSR the part number and if they say "it's $63.20", ask if that's the best they can do.   If they say yes, make your excuses, hang up then call back and try with another CSR.

I mentioned the lower price to her and I was clearly putting her out.  Big sigh and a snippy "no"  I used to get a good CSR half the time and now it seems like it has become a rarity.

One good thing about call centers is that there is more than 1 person to talk to.  Politely say "not interested", hang up then call back.   Rinse / repeat until you find the nice one.

When I got my OTP with a broken table I called up CS to order a replacement. Because the previous table broke the CSR knocked the price down to the $38 mark. But again this is a great CSR and I've worked with him a lot- even have his direct line, which is great. Just call and leave a message if he's not available and he calls back.

When ordering a replacement table, be sure that the CSR reads all the way down to the end of the page.  There, it will tell them that if this is to replace a Thermoset table, then they need to include the Charcoal Bin Chain, Part #65197

Called and was quoted $63.xx. Told nice CSR that I saw that it was quoted @$38.04 from this forum.  She was more than happy to make a "customer accommodation" and was charged $45.xx out the door.  Expecting it to arrive today.  Looking forward to the upgrade.  Thanks for all the info gathered here.

@VAis4BBQers the table is holding up great! It has been through one Chicagoland Winter already and shows no wear at all. I am pretty bad at remembering to put the grill cover on it so it took a beating this past Winter for sure. No scratches or anything either and I use it weekly. It was a good investment for sure. :)

The ripped cover caught my attention and then noticed the table top is cracked. They are installing pavers and were doing some excavating with a pick. It looks like they hit it. Hopefully they'll do the right thing and replace it for me. Definitely going for the metal table upgrade.

Did you have to modify the screw holes at all or did everything just line up?  I just picked up a 2009 performer and like most everyone else the plastic tables are not my favorite part of it.

So I called Weber CS.
They asked for my registered grill info.
I haven't registered it.
I then asked how much part 65189 is and was quoted the $67 price.
Then asked if it would make a difference if my grill was registered.
She told me I won't know until I have the information in front of me.
So I'm going home to get the serial number and registering and see how it goes once I'm registered.

Update:
Got home wrote down the serial number off the back of the Performer, went inside and registered it  and filled out the number of weber grills I own and the rest of the form (not sure if this makes any difference or not but figure it couldn't hurt)
Once registered I called CS, and told the gentleman that my plastic table needed replacing and gave the metal table part #.
The CS rep told me as a one time courtesy that they would send out a replacement free.
I then mentioned the charcoal bin chain and he told me he would send one of those in as well.

Woooohooooo!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to provide a timely update:  thanks to all the info in this forum (this topic and others) and other forums with similar news, I first made sure my 2005 Performer was registered, then I called Weber CS and told them my 11 year old table was looking sad (ok, I might have said pathetic or pitiful) and I was learning online about possibilities to make that better with the replacement table, #65189.  After my CSR (Betty) finally found me in their system - took a minute - she found the part # I referenced and said it was available for my model at $65 and change (plus tax, S&H, etc).  I said, you know, that's the thing, I see discussions about that price being all over the place - as low as 'comped' to $38 and change and even 45 dollars - are you sure we can't do better than that price you quoted?  She didn't bat an eye, she said she was sure she could, and voila, I got it for 39 plus S&H and tax.  I asked about the bin chain, wasn't sure I needed it, and she had to put me on hold a couple times and then came back with the news that I needed it and it would be added at no charge.

They're shipping today, and coupled with the info for Brian's handles, I'm officially pimping my performer and all thanks to you.

just wanted to pass along the update and the connect-the-dots info that being registered seems to be key, as well as just the usual tip to be nice, friendly, and looking for a favor.  (Pretend you're on a cancelled flight and really need someone to like you to get on that other flight.)

super service from Weber/Betty - can't wait to have a 'new' Performer on my deck to show off as a result!

thanks everyone for their updates along the way, it helped a lot!  cheers!

Technically yes, the table dimensions are the same, but the second bolt hole is not in the same place. The hole closest to the bowl lines up but the other one does not. If you are good with drilling another hole, it will fit fine, but you will have one extra hole.

Hope that helps..

This is my first post and wanted to give my feedback on ordering a replacement for my Lime Green Crate and Barrel Performer. The plastic table top was showing its age and developed some bubbling in the plastic on the area closest to the kettle. It must have been from the heat. I emailed my concern to support@weberstephen.com found on this link: http://support.weber.com/ and received a fast response from Sean. Sean's response time was fast, friendly and professional. It was one of the best Customer Service Experiences I have ever had!

He asked me why I needed a replacement and I emailed him back with my reason. A couple short emails after I received a shipping confirmation that my replacement table was on its way along with a charcoal bin cable! I was so excited that I had to join the club and post this. I will be a Weber Customer forever!

Glad to be in the club and I am so thankful that I came across this post. Looking forward to many more years with my Performer.

I registered my grills today so maybe they will give me a good deal if/when I decide to upgrade. I would really like a metal table.

I bought a 2010 Crate and Barrel Performer a couple weeks ago that was never registered, when I called to complain about the table the nice lady I spoke with said she would send me a new one before I basically could even ask for it.  Dont get me wrong I have been turned down more than my share when I called but this lady could not have been much more nice to me.

I hope you got her name and extension number.  May come in handy for future orders/warranty claims.

Yes, and Weber sent me a survey card so I could rate my experience and of course I gave her a stellar review.

The metal tables are really nice but do they get as hot as the SS performers?? My SS performer got so hot a few years ago from being the sun that actually I got burned! Don't get me wrong, I love my SS and wouldn't get rid of it for anything but I have to try to keep in a shaded area.

As I said above, I was unable to talk my way into a $38 special...a few days later there's a small box on the porch, from Weber-Stephen. I don't remember ordering anything, but I have more CRS episodes these days, so....

Turns out, they sent me a Firespice sampler! Even when they reject me they send some love.  ;)
