Title: A mini mod for the Fleetwood
Post by: zavod44 on October 28, 2012, 08:24:44 PM
So I got this 26 a year ago.  It is one of my main everyday of cookers.  I try to keep this one up to modern standards and keep this in the fight.  I have made a few mods to this already.  I added a therm from a Weber Summit, I added a slide aside, new legs and wheels, new triangle, and of course new handles.  I also added the ash catcher, I added the new style vent wheel so I could have that little plastic thing so I didn't burn my very tender fingers.  Even got a Graycort CI grate.  Well I happened to find a set of inserts from a new performer for the wheels.  So last week I was able to modify the wheels to accept the inserts and do a mini mod to the old Fleetwood.  So I thought I would share a few pics of the upgrade.

Don't know what else I could add but I'll keep looking....

WHen you added the new ash collector....did you find that the spacing on the leg sockets is different than a 22?

Yeah, What Jeff Said. I really need to know as my 26 needs an ash pan.

It doesn't even matter, I used the older style bracket that attaches in the middle and clips to the ring.  So I didn't even care weather the legs lined up, and to answer the question, no they are not even in the realm of lining up.

The ash catchers are the same on the new 26 as they are on the 22, the old 26 never had the ash bucket.  The new ones have a little part on them to catch the tabs from the ring....pay attention AJ..

Ummm...
I understand completely..but

Jeff said, WHen you added the new ash collector....did you find that the spacing on the leg sockets is different than a 22?
So, did you answer that question?
I am aware that only new 26er's ever had the bucket.
I ama aware that the old 26ers did not.
I am aware of the 2 different styles of buckets.
I am aware that "Blue" is probably your favorite color..
I know that Tuesday is preceded by Monday..
What we don't know is if the bucket from a 22 is the same as on a 26.
Was the spacing of the leg sockets on an older 26 the same as a 22?
So, the final burning question is, will you tell us?

If anyone ever wondered why I give you a hard time.........Can you please go roll a fatty and get back to the hammock and stop acting a damn fool?  People here are trying to enjoy themselves, they can't do that with your eye searing posts that make no sense.  Next time can you just put a link to the Weber schematics site?  It will save us all a headache...It prob took you two hours to type all that crap with two fingers...

The legs are far enough apart that they don't really interfere with the ring.  I really had no issues installing this mod.  I am declaring this inquisition over, or at least I'm done with your drunken interrogation.  I'll post a picture this weekend so you can stifle yourself...now go to Bakersfield and get that Seville already!

Nice mod/upgrade, Brian! One question for anyone that knows, during the flat top 26 era, did Weber only make the twist style ash pan on the 26"s? Or did they make bigger full discs like on the post 1987 22.5's? Just curius.

Arghhh.. I have to stop.. Brain is making sexual gestures towards me again..
And all because I can't get a straight answer to a simple question.
its like, I dunno, some creepy wierd fixation he has with me and my easy going ways.
And please no more Star Wars references. its very insulting to the true real fans here in California.
So, did you ever answer Jeff's question?  Its the children that always suffer in a bad break up.

Can you try to rephrase your question in a way that a non hippie who doesn't have a prescription for medicinal purposes can understand?  I don't know what more I can say to answer you question.  If you can ask it in plain English I will  try to help you.  I don't think there is anything I can say that can help you but I will try.  I have a bad feeling about this....

Don't act like you have some lock on Star Wars out there in Northern Cali..You know what my personal email address is AJ, I'm a hardcore Star Wars Junkie.

Why are you still awake? I know there was a disruption in the force today..
Even the super rich like George Lucas sells out. I think he figures that Star Wars will have a future for eternity in Disney.. Lets hope..

Jeff's question was this, Are the leg sockets on the 26 the same distance apart as on a 22?

Personally, I have the same 26 as you, and I am too lazy to check it.
I wanted a 26 ash pan if its different thatn a 22, but someone said that Weber will send you a 22 pan. I don't want that. I will put a ss ash sweeper and a gold ash bucket if it is the same as on a newer 26. I would also like some old school 8' wheels with real painted whitewalls.
I already got some geni oak wood handles that look real sharp.  8)

No the legs are spaced farther apart.
They do not correspond to anything on a 22,
They are different.
They are not the same
You will have to do all the other things I spoke of repeatedly earlier in this thread
Does this help you?
Please stop with the drinking
I can't say it any other way
If this doesn't work then I give up.
Boring conversation anyway...
Do you think you could make the kessel run in less than 12 parsecks?

AJ needs visuals and diagrams. I have been down this road with him many times before. His "medicine" supply might be getting low causing his dislexia to kick in. Please bare with him, he means no harm. Sometimes he makes me refer to him as GL during his delusions of grandeur. Just last night he emailed me wanting to go out to dinner to celebrate his huge transaction and wants me to treat since he hasn't received his check from Disney yet. Sometimes I oblige just to hear the tales he spins and to my surprise he has some great insight from behind the scenes that only the real GL could know? ??? Guess who he's going to work dressed as today? He even makes his fellow workers/minions dress up as a Star Wars character of his choosing every year. :-[
