Title: Sideways date code?

Is it common for the date code to be sideways or was this a fluke? This is the vent on my brother's SJ that he bought at a yard sale for $1. Good score.

Year it is common. '87 J's are of then seen crooked, '88 K's are seen sideways and some '89 L's are upside down.

My '88 SJ is a sideways K

It is a "K"
