Title: Spider Grills Leg Upgrade on the DR Kettle
Post by: bamakettles on May 10, 2026, 07:04:49 AM
While not being the oldest grill we own, it is the one we've owned the longest..... My sons and I bought it for Kellee, brought it over and assembled it for her before we were married... So, it's her grill and has quite a bit of sentimental value.  It was the only charcoal grilled we had and cooked on for the first 14 years of our marriage - not counting a smokey joe here and there.  About 6 years ago I upgraded it with lid hinge, probe port, wood handles and master touch legs/ash catcher, triangle and wheels.  It's always been loose and sways a lot.

Here's the updated version, finally got the leg and ash catcher kit from Spider Grills.  Cooked baked potatoes and steaks on it last night.  First time grilling on a 22" in quite some time.  It did great and is super stable now!

Cheers

Grate job! Didnt realize Spider Grills made the ash catcher ring now. I've been thinking about that lid hinge for a while but can't bring myself to drill into my babies lol.

That is very cool!
And the expanded metal triangle looks amazing, imo!

Thanks!  I wasn't keen on cutting / modifying a Weber ring and I got a discount on the SG ring and paid only $20 for it.  Not sure I'd pay full price they're asking, but this worked for me.  I've had that hinge on there for 6 years and really like it.  With a standard 3 leg setup it does tend to want to pull the grill over backward and is much more stable with this cart.

Cheers

Thanks Tommie, I really like the look of it and it's really fun to cook on a grill with memories over two decades old.  Like all the Webers, lots of life left in it and will probably outlive me!

Thanks!  I agree, I'm really stoked with the setup.  It is a little low - they sell a 3 inch riser kit for all 3 legs, but I recently got a round bottom wok that I'm planning on using with the weber grate with removable center section and this height might be desirable - we'll see.
