Title: Results - Recondition Weber logo plate vs replace
Post by: El Ruffbo on November 12, 2025, 08:31:14 AM
This might be helpful for someone....

I'm reconditioning an SSP for my rental cottage.    I've done SSPs before where I just replaced everything, but I'm trying to save more stuff on this one.   (I've recently retired, yippee!!  I have more time available too.)

I replaced the old faded, pitted, corroded Weber logo plate on my SSP that I did for myself.

For this one, I spray painted the face with black satin paint.   Let it dry for a day or so, took off the thick paint with a razor blade (so my sand paper wouldn't gum up right way).
Held it against my bench belt sander, and sanded the paint off of the high spots - the outer border, the letters, and the grill.

I might not replace a logo plate again.  I'm very happy with how it turned out!
(Pictures show the one that I reconditioned, and the one that I removed from the current project.)

Looks very good. Love it when a plan comes together!

I really messed up my pizza ovens logo plate... the chrome finish had all but come off with years of weathering but to get the last few remaining bits off was almost impossible. Wanted it all off so that I could do just what you've done here. Took some advice from YouTube and used drain unblocker but sadly it ate a lot of the good metal within minutes. Doubt I'll find another, lesson learned!

That looks awesome.  Great job!  Are you able to put it back on pretty easily?
