Hey, I think I have entered the Weber Hobby in different fashion then most. I came from the Kamado world and my first Weber Kettle was actually an M-Code 1990 "Mothership" Ranch Kettle (go big or go home!). Since acquiring my Ranch Kettle, I have picked up a few other kettles and my interest in Weber has sky-rocketed recently. In fact, I now prefer cooking in a kettle over ceramic grills.
I just picked up a B-Code 1980 Red 22" kettle the other day for $50 in excellent shape, unfortunately the original owner drilled a little 1/2"ish hole in both the bottom of the kettle and the ash pan, I have no idea why? I got it from an estate sale and plan on having those holes welded shut on Thursday.
I also have reached out to @Zavod44 as I'm hoping he is still doing reproduction wood handles. Here are is a picture of my Mothership and the hole in my B-Code I was talking about:

Welcome from Kalona, IA. Good looking Mothership. You are right about going big with it but it is fun to cook on. I wonder if the previous owner of the B code drilled the holes because of water collection problems for them. Enjoy the site and the people here.
Hello Forrest and welcome from Huntsville, AL! I thought I recognized you from the kettleheadz group on FB, saw your post on the addition of the Smoke and Sizzle for your ranch. How do you like it so far? I've got one too, just haven't used it yet. The developer sent me one to try as a sample after I did some measuring on my ranch for him. Feel bad for not using it, but not a lot of time lately to try it.
Also if you want to fill that hole, you can with a nut, bolt and washer if you don't want to weld it.

I'm guessing it was a propane burner, he even bent a section of the charcoal grate to come up through the grill. I dropped it off at a local welding shop and they're going to seal those holes and fix the grate for me!

Absolutely love the FlameTech Smoke and Sizzle! Recently did a rib cook with an entire split of Gambel oak, they came out better than any offset cooked ribs I've ever had.
