Title: Smoke Grey - 26 Mastertouch
Post by: AS in SA on November 30, 2023, 09:43:12 AM
Just saw this - wish they were offering all master touch colors in the 26, but it's a start.

So, it includes the GBS stainless grate, the warming rack, but old fashioned charcoal rails.    The charcoal rails seem like a cost cutting measure and when used as designed, will only lead to enamel failures and crazing.

Fully agree with you on the charcoal rails. They don't make much sense today.  I'd guess the porcelain is not nearly as resistant (likely as thin as can be) as the coating was decades ago.  In addition to being cheaper, the only other thing I can think of is they may allow the user to load a lot more coals than the current baskets do.

Yes to the Aristocrat being reintroduced!  I'd also love to see color options for the summit kamados.

The Big 26.75" Crafted/GBS grate looks excellent if you already have GBS accessories or can afford the new Crafted pieces $$$.

... but those charcoal rails instead of baskets is insanity. Why go to the effort to revamp and introduce a new premium 26.75" MT model, only to cheap out and include a 30 year old charcoal rail design that cant be adjusted or moved around midcook? Bit of a head scratcher that one.

Happy with my Glen Blue and Aristocrat.... And no way I'd use those rails and bank coals in them.

The charcoal rails kills me... BUT the stainless steel GBS grate is pretty sweet.

I so agree.   I bank coals with my Ranch because there's really no alternative. Admittedly, it gets used 15-20 times a year but I already have crazing after 4 years with mostly low and slow work.  It's not bad but....

Only grill I regularly abuse is my red LE.... It's my pizza machine, vortex wing kettle and has been to the salty shores of Florida.  Even though it has pops and imperfections, I treasure it so much over most in my collection.

The 26" is due for release in the UK during February so presumably the rest of Europe also
but I learn, only in black!

Well I ordered one today
Saw that color and just loved it, plus I always wanted a 26 incher
Guess this weekend I have to break her in

I think that Weber should rethink a thing about this

it has all the features you love about a 22 inch Masters touch except...... The grill baskets. maybe they just have not designed baskets for the 26 incher.

Instead it comes with some useless steel wire bent thingies that are useless.

First cook was 2 spatchcock chickens which came out great. And I was using lump charcoal and had never tried temperature control on a 26 inch with lump.

Anyway, I think it is a hit and I absolutely love this smoke color. might do pork ribs this weekend but first I need to design a basket for this thing.

Yep.  Definitely a cost cutting measure to provide cheap 1970s rails.  I would not bank coals on a beautiful grill like that.   The crazing would only be a matter of time.

All Master-Touch are switching to include Char-Rails instead of Char-Baskets. Char-Baskets will still be available as a separate accessory. #IworkforWeber

Boo.  Bad move for Weber.   This is a cost cutting move that will lead to warranty claims when the enamel gets damaged on their premium priced colored models.

Not if the enamel lasts 10 years.  I'm sure that was weighed into the decision making.

A snake and "P" shaped vents play well together.

They tasted pretty good too.
1 slab was a little overcooked, but rarely do all of them cook the same.

Picked up a set of baskets and am using them right now
I have the basket snake mod one for the 22 incher but the 26 will not take that
Saw the Bro in Sear, I do not know if that is my way of doing that
The Slow and Sear is just way to expensive for my taste, but now with the new improvements it looks better

I think I am going make one of my snake baskets out of 3 baskets.

I am a big fan of the snake, best cooker I ever had was a Happy Cooker using the snake. There is just something about that inside ash catcher that controls the heat so good.
Years ago I made a thread of how I joined a few baskets for a 22 inch basket that worked like a snake. I think I will do that for the 26 incher and post up a few picture
