Title: my custom grail, a glen blue 26" performer
Post by: tvt on October 08, 2022, 07:13:02 AM
would like to start off with how i appreciate the wealth of knowledge that has been shared on this site. thank you to all those before me!

while on my paternity/baby bonding leave, i've managed to find pockets of time to work on my version of a 26er retrofitted into a gen 2 cart.

after seeing the mini ranchers some of you have created, i've always wanted one but didn't have the tools and skills necessary to build one. learning to weld is on my bucket list of things to learn.

in the meantime, i've pondered of ways to build a 26 performer without knowing how to weld a frame and has a large table top i do not need gas assist at this time and I use my 26er when I want to smoke a 18lb brisket low and slow. the gas assist would be in the way for my smoking setup.

Last note, It seems that I will never completely be "done" as I am constantly finding little things here and there to change up. Overall, I am very happy with the build the way it is now and even happier if it inspires anyone else.

main parts:
Weber performer gen 2 frame
26" weber kettle
2 - 10' superstrut strut channels (cut to size)
4 - 1" pipe clamps
1 - 36" long 3/8" axel (cut to size)
Pair - unknown bbq brackets
Table table top

tools:
Angle grinder
Drill
Drill bits
Screws and nuts

@tvt
Do you still have the 26 triangle, legs and wheels? If so, I'd like to buy them , to complete a 26" build.

Thanks

Thank you!

The table top is granite, I paid a guy that cuts stone to cut to size and polish, he charged me $200, I'm sure price will vary depending on where you live and person.

The badge came from my parts pile, it is from a ssp performer. Another grill fella gave me a grate tip on painting the background of the badge. Spray paint the whole badge and then corse sand the surface with remove to paint from the letters and the outline.

Thanks for the inquiry. I am going to keep the parts as I like to spin up projects every now and then. Will keep you in mind though if anything changes.

happy to share. Any particular areas you're curious about?

I want to say the secret sauce is made of the the super strut channels and pipe clamps. They can be found at your local hardware store. They brace the frame and widen/cut to size. Do not require welding and allows flexibility. I also used them to offset the kettle further out (top frame) intentionally. I like being able to see more of the kettle while mounted and it allowed me to put a large table top by extending the overall size.

That's a sweet build! Curious, how did you attach the granite tabletop?
