I have a 1998 SSP and the one-touch ash catcher ring is held/attached to the bottom of the ash-sweep nut (not clipped to the leg pockets on the bottom of the bowl). I need to replace the one-touch ash sweep (what is left of it) and the only replacements I can find do not have the same attachment arrangement. Do I need to replace the ash-catcher assembly with a new one (65143) as well as the ash-sweep (7444)? I can post pics tomorrow.
The old style is obsolete. You will either need to buy the 65143 assembly that
you mentioned, or you can buy a new sweep and wire the old ring back on with
with baling wire thru the gaps in the leg sockets. Search and you can find a
thread or two that shows pics.
Thanks Dave. I should have spent more time searching. I guess there are many possible approaches. One was to take the three tabs on the newer ring and shove them into the leg socket. I thought that was odd, but that is exactly how the ash catcher ring was installed on my 2003 SSP when I got it. I may go that route with a new ash catcher assembly since the metal handle on the pan is rusted pretty bad (as is the bar that holds the ring) and the pan is beat up. Basically just upgrade/update the whole dang thing. Thanks again Dave.
