Title: Restoration nightmare
Post by: Parsonsk on May 19, 2022, 08:14:49 AM
Over the years I have picked up a number of Weber Genesis platinum grills and have restored 2 to perfection and 3 more to go. I took the last 3 in to get sandblasted - the fire box and end caps for the lid and the guy ended up sandblasting the inside of the lid as well....took all the porcelain off down to bare metal :(

I think they'll be fine once they get greased and smoked up but really takes away from being authentic original weber....I can't believe it

What are your thoughts?

The lid will likely be short-lived with no porcelain.
Too late now, but ALWAYS remove those endcaps before taking to the blaster.

That's a bummer, but replacements shouldn't be too hard to come by.

You could send the steel part to IPE and have it re-coated with porcelain enamel.  Heck you could even get a unique color like Glen Blue or yellow.
