Title: The James Webb Space Telescope launches tomorrow
Post by: stillgriller on December 24, 2021, 10:06:31 AM
After years of planning the JWST is scheduled to launch tomorrow.

Hubble's progress was pretty amazing 30 years ago, so I am looking forward to what we will learn and see from this new space telescope iteration.

The launch was a success! The JWST is on its way to its solar orbit, which will put it about 1 million miles away from earth.

Here a link to a NASA page to track the progress of JWST as it travels towards its final solar orbit:

Thanks for sharing!
That's amazing it's traveling at 4,905 mph.

I'm lucky to be a small part of the project. Here's a picture of me and JWST when it was in the clean room at Goddard Space Flight Center. It was a great launch.

My apologies for the late response in this, but that is awesome right there. I work right next to your counterparts who do orbital safety analysis for the JWST and they were excited to have it in their custody.

One of the first images taken after initial alignment of the 18 mirror segments. So much more to come!

So far so good, systems are being tested.
