My '79 Cooker (the Happy one!) is getting upgraded with multiple add on accessories. All stainless steel is being selected. The photos will tell the story.
The items are charcoal baskets, warming rack, charcoal grate, and GBS grate. Also note an idea I got on another forum, to place 2 charcoal grates in the kettle in a cross pattern, to help prevent smaller pieces of lump coal from falling through.
Also, another round of cleaning has been completed on the Cooker Kettle. About 95% of the carbon build up (40 years worth!) has been dug off, scraped off, chiseled off, sand papered off...you get my drift. If you look close, the damage from 40+ years of neglect is evident.

It is squeaky clean! It took me days to chisel off the carbon build up. Yes, many more cooks. My other Kettles will sit as bench warmers for now!
I got the idea for the stainless charcoal baskets from you, bought them on Amazon. They are HEAVY!
Does anyone here do the double charcoal grate thing, as pictured above?
yes sir - it does help a bit

Yes, I use double charcoal grates when using lump charcoal on my WSM and Kettles. I don't find it necessary when using briquettes.
Nice looking SS setup you have on the Happy Cooker.
Yep I like using the double grate technique in my wsm and kettles when using lump.

I will try the double grate setup next week, when we grill up some Prime Beef!
If I get another 40 years out of this kettle, I'll be a happy camper...or is that a Happy Cooker Camper?
I use the double charcoal grate. Works pretty well. Probably not that advantageous when using charcoal baskets.
What is the point to the indents in the new charcoal grate?
Btw setup looks sweet.
The indents are for Weber paraffin cube starters.

Yes, and these (Aura) are actually nice grates. Ordered two, one for each 22" Kettle.
Do you have a link to those tall Stainless Steel Charcoal baskets
I'd like to get a set of those Stainless Charcoal baskets myself.
Ordered from Amazon. They are nice, hold lots of charcoal. Enough for a long slow smoke.
