Weber collecting has grown big enough to attract professional scammers.
These scammers have already made attempts to scam several community members. Luckily the WKC members were savvy enough to smell the scam.
As of Feb 4, 2021 - The WKC forums are closed to NEW MEMBERSHIP.
There's currently a secret passphrase on the sign-up page, and only trusted members will be able to give access.
Step 1. Keep out the creepers. check.
Step 2. Kick out the creepers
I'll be whittling down the WKC userbase. Any account with 0 posts is getting removed. Should have spoke up!
BUYING / SELLING / TRADING

I'll also be implementing a karma system that we can use to house a reputation system, both for posting and for buying/trading.

Probably not a bad idea to make some changes in light of what has been going on. Sad state of things when people feel the need to go after kettle heads to make an easy illegitimate buck. Hopefully things will improve in the future and things like this won't be so necessary.

Good work ! I haven't been on for a while with the state of the world but it seems awful quiet on here. I know it's winter but be careful not to shut out newbs. There really is not much new content on here right now.
I read someone's post about missing the cutoff. I was a bit alarmed about what that meant. It's always good to circle the wagons but let's make them chuck wagons. I'm hungry.

I gave my next door neighbor an old black 22" I didn't need a few months ago. He was just browsing and learning on the WKC. Now he's locked out.

I was one of those folks that got locked out, I've got 2 kettles, a Smokey joe, a 18 WSM and a Weber Firepit. I was lucky enough to get the passcode from someone on another forum by asking nicely (I post frequently over there and was just a lurker here), but I'll post over here too to pay my dues! Love the website and forums for all the information they provide.

It out weighs temporary excluding people and if you want weber to hear you speak with your wallet and/or email customer service with suggestions.

I like these moves. Offerup in my area has been bad on all levels games, vhs, crt tvs, grills, people have been paying more attention to trends during the covid era. Hopefully all forms of collecting settle down once things move closer to normal again

Marketplace has all but killed off offerup and craigslist in my area. I'm not on Facebook so I have to go through friends but I find I buy much less in general now.
