I found this charcoal tub at one of my local thrift stores. Half full of charcoal. The lid on the spout has a little tab which snaps into the square hole to keep it open when in use. I am guessing it's from the 70's.
What you have is a Weber Charcoal Chest (#6601). You will find it pictured on page 18 of the 1981 Weber Catalog. I looked through all the previous year catalogs that are chronicled on the WKC Home Page and 1981 is the first year the Charcoal Chest appears in the catalogs.

It is also pictured on page 20 of the 1982 Weber Dealer Catalog.

Nice find BTW.
Now you need a dedicated portable grill parts section (hint hint).

I like the "Caution - Cold Charcoal Only" warning on the inside of the lid in the 3rd photo.

Unfortunately not everyone has enough common sense to realize "hot things melt plastic". ::)

Years ago I got some of those water wings for my kids to use in the pool and there was a warning... not an edible food product.
