Title: How many lights do you get from 1# of Propane?
Post by: Moseph on November 01, 2020, 05:41:38 PM
Hi all,

I'm planning on getting a Performer soon, and debating the Deluxe vs. the Premium.

The Propane assist seems useful (especially for my wife), but I'm curious how many lights can that little 1# canister provide?

I know this is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question, but I'm looking for your personal experiences.

How many cooks you get before needing to refill?

Thanks,
Moe

If you do five minute burns, you might get 30 lights.  I use it to light my chimneys.   Works very well.  You can connect it to regular 20 pound tank, too, with an adapter.

Thanks! Can a 20 pound tank fit under the table? Or do you have to put it off to the side?

Off to the side on the ground.

Lots more than you'd think...20 plus sounds right.  Maybe more? I honestly think a big tank is overkill for what the accomplishes.

On my old SS Performer with few five pound tank, it would last for about 160 five minute lights. My new Performer with the one pound tank has thus far given me 27 five minute lights, and still has gas in the tank.

Thanks for the detailed info!

Think I'll need 5 minutes to get fresh lump going? Seems a bit longer than I imagined.

No you probably need less time for lump. It lights fast.

Btw. I usually use briquettes. When I cook in the winter, I put some lump in the bottom of my chimney to get it going faster.
