Title: Need suggestion for what kind of wood Zav handle for Glen Blue 26
Post by: charred on July 17, 2020, 12:41:49 PM
Some of you may recall that I HATE the taco handle AND the "glass" handles, (especially black ones on a Glen Blue!)  Weber never should have chucked the wood.  ;)

I'm gonna replace the stock GB handles pronto.  What wood? Pics of any GBs with wooden handles would be appreciated.

Didn't the old glen blues all have metal handles?

The Glenn Blue color was produced from 1962 through 1966. You will find examples of Glenn Blue kettles with either MLH and wood handles as Weber changed the MLH (metal lid handles) to twin rivet wood handles in 1964.

I think a darker wood would look better, walnut or something, but I'm sure maple would look slick too. Have you seen @Jules V. Thread where he reshapes the handle(bars?) And removes the taco?

@ReanimatedRobot didnt you reshape one too?

I suspect there would be quite a few chipped lids on the glen blue.

Here's a couple of choices for you Pete:

Top handle - Asian Burl (Pyinma Burl)      Middle Handle - High Figured Cedar          Bottom Handle - Koa

My personal favorite is the Asian Burl. That is what is riding on my Glenn Blue currently.

I'm partial to Birdseye maple (quite light) and curly koa. It hard to go wrong but I'd recommend something with figure or grain to make it more interesting.

I am a huge fan of light colored handles on this shade of blue.  This is Tiger Maple on my turquoise SJ. I have more on order from Brian for my turquoise 22" and my Glen Blue 26".
