I have no reference or experience for this. Growing up, I never grilled with my dad. However, my kids (ages 5 & 3) are clearly showing an interest in grilling when I bring out the kettle. When I picked up a new Ocean Blue Master Touch a few weeks ago, my son told my wife that I bought the wrong grill; apparently I was supposed to bring home one for the kids.
I guess my question is where do I start with them? They're too short to "help" using my 22, so my initial thought was to find an 18" OTG and shorten it a bit. Or maybe a Smokey Joe?
I love that they're clearly interested and want to encourage it. Anyone else have experience in this?
I don't have kids but I do have experience with creating a 18" "shorty" OTG. Just cut the legs to 12" length and add a 18" ash bucket assembly (or not).
Here is a link to the mod. The Outrider lid handle can be omitted.

I've had my little guy cooking on a Smokey joe. Set the kids in a lawn chair with the grill on the ground in front of them. Couple of dogs and they are good to go.

Hot dogs on a Jumbo Joe or a Smokey Joe.
