If its just used for cooking. Just build one out of expanded metal. Works great! and the price is pretty reasonable!

What kind of metal? I'm assuming galvanized is bad

Not galvanized. You can find examples at Home Depot or Lowes. Sold in sheets with diamond shaped holes. Cold rolled steel. Here is a charcoal grate I cut out for a 18WSM.

I've made charcoal rings. cut to width and length. bend into circle. bolt end together with ss bolts and fender washers.
