So does it matter on how u stack these? This was a 3x2 issued to hold temps at 250 275ish and held it more hours i needed. So question I like the snake.. but my patience doesn't also if I move the grill sometimes they fall. So thinking of doing some hillbilly engineering with some baskets in my 26..

I seen some guys stack them flat other like dominos and other just dump them and arrange them?
I also was thinking of using a charcoal ring and just dump them around it?

I lay them out like two layers of dominos or I just dump them and form.
It all depends on how much time I have.
Both ways work well for me.

Oh I get it now. Your talking about modifying those baskets into one snake like basket? That would be handy.
I've usually placed like dominos but I've also just dumped around a drip pan. Both ways work well. Precise stacking yields more temp control imo.
There was a guy on here that was making custom rings just for snake like set ups.

I wouldn't do the baskets thing - I don't see how the low and slow fire would jump from basket to basket, and why introduce a potential break in the cook if it's not needed? What you had in the pics looked perfect - the briquettes were leaning on each other (ensuring contact from piece to piece) and your wood chunks were spread out well. I say light 'er up, have a cocktail and enjoy!

Gotcha - I see now. I made a bigger weber basket out of 2 of those baskets for my 22" a while back, and I love the result. I suppose there are some benefits to creating one massive snake basket - one being you won't have to handle charcoal pieces to make the snake and two being you're not banking coals on your bowl. Now I'm curious as to how this will work! Not that you need it, but you have my blessing!

So, I rigged-up something using some EM (expanded metal).
It is essentially a "fence".
Works great! I have gone 11+ hours easily.

I 100% 2x2 overlapped lower vents 1/2 lid wide open. Have zero issue holding 250-275. 6-8 pound pork shoulder takes about an hour a pound with this set up
