I don't have $4K to blow on an offset smoker, but if I did this would be the one.

I've been following the progress on this beast for a while, and nice to see it come to life. Maybe in a few years there will be some used ones on the market I can get my hands on. You can sign up for more info here:

I've been following it too. A bit rich for me, as well. He's a bit of a bbq snob for hits pits. In his "meat smoking manifesto" book he doesn't speak too highly of Weber. I recall a reference to "flimsy Weber kettles".

I've learned to trust only one opinion - my own - when it comes to equipment of any kind. I need to see it, touch it and use it before saying anything positive or negative. I don't smoke meat 24/7, so smoking on a Weber (kettle or WSM) works perfectly well. I have not seen, touched or used the Franklin offset smoker, or any other for that matter, but I would like to someday. Something tells me I might find it appealing, but not so much I would give up my kettles. (Same for the Weber pellet cooker for that matter.)

I think I would really like an offset but I don't think I would get enough use out of it to warrant the space it takes up or the initial cost of a good one.
This one does look like it would be fun!
