Hi folks, just trying to understand the advantage to the new "P" vents. I have owned Weber kettles since before God invented dirt, and never had any issues with vent adjustments throughout their design changes. Is this new-fangled "P" vent really that good? Earth shattering? What will it do that I cannot already do? Anyone out there own a kettle with the "P" vents? Seems more of a gimmick to me, but I ask the masses to educate me, prove me wrong. I am looking to buy another kettle... do I need this?
Not an earth shattering change by any means. It gives marginally better fine adjustment at low temps for smoking but its hardly noticeable IMO

Yeah, I kinda figured that. Thanks for the insight!
Curious myself, I wonder if you can get even less airflow for really low and slow like you can with an old 3 wheeler. It was developed for the Summit charcoal correct? seems like it would be good for using lump and still able to get low temps?
It helps to some degree, but on the Summit in particular (and on well used OT systems) I find the very tips on the 3-fin ash sweep doesn't lay perfectly flat against the bowl anyways which allows a bit more air to creep in somewhat negating the ability to choke it down really low.
A good old' 3-wheeler still has better fine control down low
Can anybody post a pic of what this is about or a link? I have no idea what P vents are.

It's tough to fault Weber for trying to make small improvements to a tried and true design.

that's right...once you have a successful platform, improvements are incremental going forward.
So, anybody notice another difference in below picture?...
I got 1 Crimson for fathers day, and ordered another and it just came in. Do they still make the Crimson? It's not on Weber site, and only a handful of places carry any stock. Either way, fathers day grill did not have P vents, but this one does, when did they begin this? Also, try to see if anyone notices the other difference for this Premium series Kettle.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190626/7f60efcff4208a3e26768e24fda08e61.jpg)

It has "d" vents and rear bowl handle delete option.

I guess the 1 handle is new to the premiums moving forward?

I would love to hear the science behind this p vent improvement BS. Seems like a lack of innovation to me. If they want to make improvements lets make a 26" performer series. Heck make a 30" or bigger. Make more colors! People love colors! Its not an improvement per say but def an aesthetic improvement. Make me an patriotic weber! We love our red white and blue!
I think weber can come up with so much more, they have become complacent, and stale , and that will be their downfall unless they do something to light up their creative fire.
Having said that doesn't change the fact that im a big fan of their products. So easy on the fire...

I am on my first Weber and it has P vents.
Without the ability to compare its hard to say if it is an improvement.
That being said, for what it is worth, i find that whenever i am trying to target a low temp, i end up in the P part of the setting.
I just bought a Smoke Master-Touch, and it has the P vents, but the Black Premium I bought last fall had the standard vents, so perhaps they are rolling it out slowly.
I'm pretty sure the Kettle pictured above is the Limited Edition Red Kettle that came out last year, which came with a lid bale, so that's why there's only one handle.
You can still buy the Limited Edition Red Kettles on Home Depot's website (EDIT: Actually it looks like they are out of stock from every retailer, even online):

If you're looking for a Crimson, I believe those are exclusive to Ace Hardware:

Its mine, and its definitely a crimson, and got from BBQ guys website. The flash just makes it look red

I don't think there is any science involved. It's just a common sense improvement like most of Weber's improvements. Probably why they are so successful.
I haven't used a "p" vent yet but it makes perfect sense and one of the only things that makes me want a new Weber.

Look! All the P vent does is make it easier to smoke. You don't have to worry so much about the regular gap.
