Title: Master Touch Conversion
Post by: WNC on March 30, 2019, 07:49:28 AM
This is gonna be a long one...
Feel free to skip down to the pics, plus I can't figure out how to get the pics embedded into the text using the app

I've been on the hunt for a red MT for a while. With no luck I figured I could convert one out of an old beat up red that I had gotten from my first real kettle score. I really like the grill, but it had some damage, detached leg socket, etc...

So a few weeks ago I sent out feelers to see if anyone had some spare MT parts lying around. Both DrewZ and brewtownbeatdown (Mike) responded in like fifteen minutes both with parts willing to spare. This club rules!

Well Mike and I started texting back and forth, and let me tell you, he is a true example of what this club is about! At every turn he offered up advice and parts I didn't even think I needed. He even threw in an extra set of wheels, because he could tell from the pictures I sent him that I needed them.

Onto the kettle.
I reattached the a leg socket using pop rivets and washers (some big rust holes) but that leads to the one touch system getting caught up.
So I modded the one touch system by cutting a notch out to make clearance for the washer and rivets.
Took off the back handle to make room for the lid bale. Made some rollers for the bale and tried to match them to the handles, which if you look close must've been made from some burl because it's got some great grain.
Attached the ash catcher ring with wire, polish everything up and we're good to go!
I was a little worried that it wouldn't shut down with the gaping whole in the one touch system, but it still works, the ash helps block things up.
Already have done some wings a spun a bird.
I think this I'll be my daily cooker for awhile!

I assumed the handle was not your work and should have said "Nice work on that grill"
