St. Patrick's Day Grill-a-thon 2019
March 9th-23th
It's almost that time of year my friends, YES that massive holiday. A holiday celebrated in most cities with a large Irish population, a holiday in which everyone is Irish for the day. That's right St. Patrick's Day! Just Like the title stated.
I am proud to host this 2019 St. Patrick's Day Grill-a-thon for all who live in the USA and Canada. Prizes will be shipped using USPS. Anyone can participate but prizes are only shipped within USA and Canada.
Let us see your best Irish food being grilled up. We want to see food such as, Corned beef and cabbage, Gobs and Gobs of Guinness, Black and Tans, Irish Stew, Lamb Meatballs, Guinness-Stout Pot Roast, Soda Bread, Irish Whiskey and In Chicago we dye the river green (Don't try doing this in your town or you'll not make it to St. Patrick's Day you'll be sitting in jail :o) and we also have the Northwest Side and South Side Parades.
If anyone is looking for any ideas I have "McGuire's Irish Pub Cookbook" and if needed or wanted I would be happy to share any recipes from it. If you do not know of McGuire's Irish Pub they are located in Pensacola, FL they opened the first location in 77' then moved to the current location in 82' big place! The bar/restaurant seats 615 people. I have not been to the place but it's on my bucket list. I told a buddy of mine I wanted to go some day and he bought me the book and said "Until you go you can still have some of the food with a little help from this cookbook."
Let's see who can grill up some great Irish dishes. I encourage pictures of the food, pictures of prepping the food, recipes if you want to share and party pictures is always a good thing. This will help all the members vote for their favorite.
2018 St. Patrick's Day Grill-a-thon prizes went to...
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/meetups-events/st-patricks-day-grill-a-thon/
1st Place =
@Scott Zee "Corned beef, cabbage"
2nd Place =
@56MPG "ST PATRICK'S BALLS"
For this St. Patrick's Day Grill-a-thon to run as smooth as last year I am asking the same.
1. Anyone who wishes to vote to
PLEASE (PM) me and tell me your
1st, and 2nd place favorites. Once I receive them I will do a total count and post the 1st and 2nd place victors. Then award the prizes the following week and ship them out.
2. Anyone who wishes to post your St. Patrick's Day cooks please post the pictures in this link so I'm not looking all over the place for them.
Until then an Irish drinking toast...
When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

Really looking forward to everyone's cooking for St. Patrick's Day.
Thank everyone and good luck to all that participate.
Always remember a rainy, snowy, windy day of grilling beats a beautiful day outside that you're stuck in an office. So get out and grill for St. Patrick's Day.

I know tacos aren't necessarily Irish fare, but when my niece, the finder of a '63 Wood Dale requests Reuben tacos you have to oblige. After all there is corned beef and cabbage(sauerkraut) involved.
On to the cook St Patty's day cook off photos.
Happy St. Patrick's day WKC! ☘️

Here's mine
Did smoked corn beef for rubens.
My first try and I think it came out pretty good. Over did the brisket a little, but still made for great sandwiches!
Thanks Dan, for putting this one together!

Irish chowder.
I initially wanted to do the classic corned beef and cabbage but then I decided to dig a little deeper for something I hadn't made before. I stumbled across a recipe for Irish chowder that I modified a little to fit the ingredients I could easily obtain.
Thanks Dan!
I first sweated some bacon and onions
Then added some potato
Then added some chicken stock and bay leaves and thyme and simmered for 20 minutes
While that was going, I diced up some partially frozen salmon and flounder.
The recipe called for smoked fish so I had the fish "smoking" in a bowl for a few minutes before I added to the pot. I also added mussels.
Cooked another ten minutes and removed from heat and added heavy cream and served.
All the while I had Irish soda bread baking. My wife usually makes it and it's wonderful but she was gone tonight so I had to make do on my own.
All I can say is I love mussels and this chowder didn't disappoint.
Also, I was very glad to have the smoke shack roof over my head. It rained the whole time.
