So I'm looking to give 3 of my grills a deep cleaning. Will easy off work on the outside of the kettle with out damaging the finish? Got some nasty spots that will need some serious help.
Thanks

The inside and outside are the same. Oven cleaner will not hurt it at all. But I found out that oven cleaner will damage the performer cart coating, it left spots. I would remove any handles, legs, or thermometers. Oven cleaner won't hurt the sweeps either.
Oven cleaner will etch aluminum so keep it off the vents and legs.
Dawn soap and hot water are a good alternative, too.

^^This^^
And a good scrub brush.
I can't imagine what could be so bad that would require oven cleaner. Fine steel wool and dawn should work fine. Maybe a razor scrape if necessary.

Hot soapy water and a razor blade to start, then 0000 steel wool. Needs a fair amount of time and elbow grease also! I would use the least aggressive method first and go from there.
I have had much success lately with the Oven/Grill Cleaner from Sams Club.
Dirt cheap also. Let it sit for a couple hours and cut the elbow grease nonsense in half.

Try soaking the cruddy areas with apple cider vinegar.......heavily moistened old bath towel, lay over an area for 10-15 minutes (possibly a little longer if the stuff's real old & hardened), then razor scrape at a LOW angle......
Cheery part is no nasty chemical residue & it cooks off in a few minutes when you heat up to Q.....
I use SOS pads.
I'm with "Dave in KC" oven cleaner cuts that bs in half. In some stubborn cases I've had to use oven cleaner and a razor instead of a plastic putty knife.
