Title: Custom Platinum project just finished.
Post by: greenweb on October 10, 2018, 12:52:04 PM
Just finished this project. I was worried about fitment after drilling for front lid handle, bowl placement holes and cutting off the bowl handle. But everything fits perfectly.

Inside the bowl all cleaned.

All finished.  Wheels are from old Radio Flyer trike.

Looks great. Is that a spring green master touch?

Yes it is.  What do you think about slate in Performer silver.  or should I stick to another solid blue. I have a gen 1 blue MT I can use. This will be my next project. Other option are....easy one is to put my red SSP lid and a bowl and a hardest one considered is a 3 wheeler brownie converted to ash sweep with a bucket.

Let me know what others think as I am having a real hard time deciding which on to go with.

If you're looking for something unique, then the slate would definitely fit the bill.

I like it - saw it in your other post and was just going to ask about this.

How difficult was it to line up the mounting points?

I've got a couple different kettles that I've thought about doing this to.

Not too hard. Use "measure twice and cut once" rule. I also made up construction paper template to transfer holes.

That looks really good, greenweb! I second the slate as a performer.

Thanks Travis. The Slate performer silver project underway.  Front bowl handle cut, holes drilled for the brackets, SS brackets bent to shape, old rusty blades bent up steel sweeper removed. Will be installing another set of SS sweeper set.  Lid handle style and wood picked out already. Just need to do mega cleaning.

few pics so far.

The lid. Maybe after cleaning, it might look half decent.

Bowl handle removed.

Brackets installed. Big thank to Jules for supplying me with these brackets. Putting them to a good use.

Few more things to do yet. I would say just cleaning alone will take good 1 to 1.5hrs.  I will back in few hrs to reveal the final project.

Nice progress.  Can't see it in the photos but make sure to use a fiber gasket between the brackets and bowl.

All done! fiber gasket not on but going on when I replace the bolts as they stick out too much for my liking.

I will be starting a new thread for this. Check it out and let me know good or bad. You are my best critic.  ;D ;D ;D

Don't know what type of bolt head you used but a pan head works best so it will not interfere with the cooking grate. Also, the tip of the bolt should be flush with the nut as you don't have much clearance between the bracket and frame.

I could cut them off flush or just buy shorter 1/2" length. They are the same length as the ones I use for the handle.

Just realized what you are talking about. bolts go the other way around. Hardware store did not have the pan head so I got hex head. I will get more slotted pan head bolts. Thanks so much!

Usually i just cut my bolts to length then grind it off flush once fully tightened.
