Title: Two Whole chickens at a time (beer can) need advice
Post by: MauroBBQ on August 27, 2018, 12:13:03 PM
Looking for advice
Want to do 2 beer can chicken
I have a 22.5 Performer, 2 weber charcoal baskets or 1 large basket made from 2 regular baskets.
Im sure the experts in this forum could guide me to a link or share pictures of their own setups for this kind of cook
Really appreciate the support.

For BCC, I personally recommend cooking them in the basement (charcoal grate).
Then you have no worries regarding the lid touching the birds.

Maybe go with one large basket on one side.  Should workout just fine.

This pic below is mine from many years ago.  These were just little birds, about 3 lbs each.

I'd do spatchcock over beer can.

@MacEggs
Thank you very much for the reply
Great looking birds I might add!!!

If I use the 1 large basket, should I rotate the birds at least once during the cook?
Was your temp between 350-400F? about 1.5 hrs

Thank you, @MauroBBQ !

I don't think that rotating the birds would be necessary.
However, it's your cook-up, so you may want to experiment a bit.

As far as the temperature ... ??  Honestly, I have no idea.
For a cook-up like this, I don't concern myself with the temperature of the cooker, I just let the kettle take care of itself.
I would be more concerned with the internal temperature of the meat.

And, yeah, I would say about 1 - 1.5 hours at most for these small birds.
All the best with what you end up doing.
