My wife and I took our annual trip to Carmel for Car Week on the Monterey Peninsula.   This was our 10th year attending the Carmel Concourse on Ocean Avenue. Here's a few photos from today. 


1948 Tucker, one of only 51 made. I believe this was going to win Best Of Show IMHO.

These vintage race cars drove from Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey to Carmel via Highway 1 with a Highway Patrol escort.

One of my wife's hobbies is rock painting.  She left several of her painted rocks in Carmel today.  A couple of the shops put them in their window displays for this weeks Car Week.

Anyone recognize the number and color scheme of this painted rock?

Doubt if anyone would know this one.  It's the number of a 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa race car.

This sign in the parking lot of the Carmel Deli was classic.  Notice the Maserati emblem painted rock?

That tucker is one bad ass car. If im not mistaken it was the first car to have adjusting headlights(the center one) when turning.

Yes, you are correct Matt.  Audi, BMW, Cadillac and Buick offer adaptive headlights now (the headlight beams are redirected according to the direction the wheel is turned).  The Tucker also had a padded dash, disc brakes and a windshield that popped out in a collision protecting the passengers from injury.  Way ahead of it's time.

Beautiful pics, I love cars, grills are cheaper. the Tucker is awesome I have a friend I grew up with whose dad owned one, he inherited it. He brings it every year to the town I grew up in, annual street party. The town is called Tucker LOL I have had the pleasure to actually sit in it. keep those car pics coming @Cellar2ful

Would it work to do a Weber meet up there next year?  Would make for a great weekend of BBQs and cars.

@JEBIV  - Nice vehicle to inherit.  Regardless of condition, it is worth over 1 million currently. Your friends name Cofer? I found the car you speak of in the Tucker registry (chassis #1034). It indicates the car is in the Cofer Collection.  Every Tucker chassis made is noted with the current whereabouts and some have the current condition.  Some of the cars have some real interesting history. It is towards the end of the article.

@Cellar2ful Yes I grew up in Tucker, Ga. Mr.Cofer was a businessman in Tucker I believe his father started it, owned lumber yard, and numerous other things. At one point the family owned all of one side of main street. I grew up with his son Chip who now runs the lumber yard business still in the same place on Main street. There Tucker car is in beautiful shape not sure how it would be rated as far as condition. the wikipedia is a neat read

You got it Rick. Herbie's number from the 1968 Walt Disney film The Love Bug.  Same number and colors as Don Drysdale though.  He played for that team Northern California really loves to hate. High temp of 61 in Carmel yesterday.

Also even though it's a fairly recent Caddy the CTS- V came in wagon form a few years back with a blower to boot.

@Firemunkee - There were about 300 cars at the Concourse and I have photos of maybe 75. Can't post them all as it takes time to resize them so WKC pics can handle downloading.  There were two GT500's at the show.  A coupe and convertible. I get to the show at O'dark thirty so I can watch the cars staging and driving in.  Much prefer to see them running and experience the smell of good old 103 octane fuel.

Yesterday, a Ferrari 250 GTO sold at the RM Sotheby's auction in Monterey for $48.5 million (new world record).

In 2011 when I attended the Concourse, I found this 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa parked on the street in Carmel prior to the Concourse. It sold later that day for $16.4 million.

What's amazing is that during car week there are vintage cars of this caliber and value everywhere.  Starbucks, MacDonalds and even Safeway grocery store parking lots are virtually are a car show.

Nice!  I'll have to take and post a pic of my Dad's 39 Chevy street rod.
