Title: Yellow Rehab Pics:
Post by: DrewZ on April 29, 2018, 01:34:50 PM
By the good graces of some deranged strangers, I brought home a '77 Yellow 22.5 yesterday. (http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/yellow-talefrom-western-mass-dumpster-to-nj-backyard-with-an-assist-from-ohio/)

From the original CL ad:

After about a half-day of clean-up:

It came with a Zav-Odd handle.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/50GP1S-AmYCHQlQrALjo10IsMYqmMSsF1wIjIj9txKPZcmncdthLQ1VqkmPG6ffnC2SuKmEhYC79ci0SwhjlOcFXK1jIysRSp_E6ffx6b-wLgQOHY7p04zqQ4zKNHqKFSQlRFK_J4A=w800)

I pulled the handle from the lid of my first kettle to replace what the prior owner had cobbled together, and re-drilled the top so my spare double wood handle would fit.

Testing a small patch with VHT 900-degree caliper paint.

The bowl as it was on pickup day.  (The missing vent was inside the kettle, as was the twisty ash pan)
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Xa2BHdqn5MzhXbq8YvR5xYByo2VSV8q-o8_Xq5SHCqqvFa095MGVLHZoe8A8FVxYc8eSQsxoCbj22_KTVW2Cv05ZUEdlIIjtjcTpS5HpR_dbT4OSRmUnE2-VOYJYeLCJi0hD7B6JTw=w800)

After some scrubbing with Barkeepers Friend and dish soap.  The other two bowl vents were pretty misshapen and clogged with crap, so I drilled out the rivets, reshaped and reattached all three with new SS hardware.

Very Nice.

I might actually have you beat on a "replacement handle" as bought.  I was waiting on posting pics until the guy I bought it from (a member who doesn't post very often) HOPEFULLY finds the original handle that had fallen off in his garage.  He said it was off when he bought it and claims he saved it & will ship to me when he finds.  I do have a plan b, just in case.  I might have to post a pic, just for the giggle factor.
