Hola Amigos
Saludos
So I recently scored on SJG 14" 1991 for 10dlls
I have read some articles and seen some videos for converting (don't know if this is the correct word I'm looking for) this in to what's called a "mini WSM"
What are your valuable thoughts and recommendations on this
As I'm thinking on going for it...
I live in Juarez Mexico so it should be easy to find an Olla Tamalera (tamale steamer pot) I might even get my moms olla ;)
Nah! Better not!!!

They make great little cookers. You can fit a surprising amount of food into it as well.

Will look up on how to threads and videos

Mauro, You can tell your mom that every tamale pot wants to smoke barbacoa and carnitas when it grows up!
@pbe gummi bear

WOW That is one helluva lid bale
I did one and like the others said they work great.if I can figure out how to post a pic I will.
I used a VERY strong stainless steel pot and was hard to drill in to. I put holes in the bottom for air flow. And added the necessary holes for the grates. If I had to do over I would have used aluminum. i added a water bowl as well.
Die cut stickers for the logos. And no grief from you guys for my favorite teams! 😎
The nice thing about going this route is you can make the grill grates to what ever height you want. Put some thought in to were you want them and what height in relation to the heat from the bottom. It is way cheaper to get the smokey Joe then build from there vs. a wsm 18. And a fun, easy build too.

Or even better, you can do what we do and use the smoked pork or chicken...
in your tamales.

Just a quick FYI. I've seen tamale pots that will fit on 18.5 and 22" cookers. They run around $60 for the 22".
I paid $200 for a Smoke EZ.
I got a little carried away with mine.

@Yukonjim That's nuts! Absolutely cool but also nuts!
@Yukonjim Dr. Freud would have a heyday with that design. ;)
@MauroBBQ That's a cool little SJ you found. You're gonna' love the DIY MiniWSM. Mine gets way more use than I thought it would have. Throw up some picks of some discadas (spelling?) tacos!!! :)
-Jed
@Jed.cook
Yup great little SJG!!!
So far I did a small pork shoulder :)
Came out good bu need to practice more to maintain low temps... it kept around 300-325
And yes you spelled it correctly "discada"
Mmmmmh getting hungry

Ha! Good to hear my spelling is in check. One of my middle school students (I'm a teacher in Colorado) promised to bring me in some discada tacos last year. He says it's his favorite food, but he has yet to make good on his promise. I told him I'd trade his mom for some of my best gringo bbq recipes. :)
-Jed
@Jed.cook
Let me know if you don't get the tacos
I will get in that trade with you!!! ;)
