I found this kettle in a pile of trash on the street. I think it's a Weber, but it's different from what I've seen. I haven't cleaned it yet, but here are the pics.
The top vent doesn't have any markings on it. But, there is a "J" on it. You probably can't see it in the picture.

It has 3 daisy wheel vents on the bottom, but it doesn't have any grill straps for the grates. Instead, there's a rim all around it for the top grate (It didn't come with grates - I couldn't find any in the trash heap where this came from)

The triangle doesn't have the middle spoke on each side.

Is this something from Sears? Since it says "J" on the top vent, does this still mean it's a 1987 model?
Based on the pictures, I'd say it was a figment of your imagination. :)
(Pics are missing)
Pics are missing? That's weird. I'm looking at the post and I can see the pics.
Anyone have any ideas?
I also have an 18" grill JUST like this only mine in is a K code. I believe it was agreed that it is a Sears kettle that was made by Weber. A standard 18" weber cook grate is too small for it. I am going to be drilling into mine and making grate "straps" out of some SS bolts so a standard grate will fit onto it. It will be gifted to a friend/coworker who has only cooked on gas but wants to give charcoal a try.

Thanks for identifying it as a Sears. I guess it's nothing to get too excited about...

@Lowbrass What? WHy are you adding grill straps? It shouldn't need them.
