I get a lot of people asking which one they should buy.
I used to answer with some variation of "It depends"
It used to depend on:
- Do you want to cook low and slow, indirect?
- Or do you want to cook hot and fast with a 6" nuke zone and a 'hot wing ring'
But after a few years of using both I've realized a couple of things.
1. The Slow'n'Sear really does it all. It's perfect for the bbq, but it also greatly improves the kettle cooking experience for other cooking techniques (direct, high heat indirect)
2. The SNS doesn't actually have to leave my kettle. Ever. While the vortex needs to be manhandled constantly.
On the flip side, I just don't see a lot of benefit to the 'other' vortex cooking methods and 'versatilities' - but I still keep it around for wings.
In this cook video, I cooked KFC and did a side-by-side cook with the Vortex and the Slow'N Sear.
In the previous 2 tests, both setups produced the exact results, but in the 3rd attempt the Vortex actually cooked slightly faster.

It's been on awhile now , it's really windy and cold . So it's suckin the heat . Plus I don't have a S and S . Just old indirect on one side . They are getting crispy but not quite done yet . I am excited to see the end results . I'll add more pics when they are done .

That Kettle Fried Chicken looks and sounds (as you bite into it) amazing. It appears that the vortex chicken looked more uniform in color than the Slow N Sear chicken. But as long as they both taste great, use what is the easiest. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video.
