Title: 5 lb tank to 1 lb tank on SSP
Post by: Lemans on November 07, 2017, 02:40:21 AM
Hey Team.. I picked up a SSP a few months back . The 5 lb tank is almost empty and
I will have to get it re-certified to have it refilled. Is there an adapter I can put on the quick release
To allow me to use the one lb tanks , without changing the entire house ? Help!!!

I haven't yet found an adapter for that. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but it's a clue that you should lose the QR fitting altogether.

So if you remove it, you can thread this into the regulator: https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-Throwaway-Cylinder-Fitting/dp/B000BQM8IU/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_lp_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FDYM497VEA0J5FE5Z3K6

Going forward, use this, instead, if your tank also has the more modern ACME fitting (large outside threads): https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-Propane-4-Inch-Thread/dp/B000BQT5H2 I did that on my SSP specifically because the Quick Release was anything but quickly released when needed.

Note: my SSP came with a different tank, not the original Manchester. It works with both QR and ACME. If yours is original you probably can't use an ACME adapter. However, whoever recertifies your tank it should be able to replace its valve with a modern OPD that will have an ACME connection.

Fwiw, getting my tank recertified was super easy and didn't cost me anything as long as I got it filled which was about $5 and took about 10 minutes at a propane shop.
