O.K.....I am calling on the experts once again...I am putting a green kettle on a S/S Performer and I was wondering if there is an easy way to remove the plastic handle on the vent tab, without bending the vent tab??? I don't like the plastic one that is on there, plus getting her prepared for when Brian gets plans for those in wood.
Thanks Fellas...
Ken
i used a bunch of shims and a small piece of wood to wedge under the platic (between plastic top of lid)
It bent the vent up just a bit, then i hit the vent with a rubber mallet and the plastic popped off.
It took several attempts, and i'm sure there's a better way - but it worked for me!
Mine pulled right off. Try putting the lid in grass, hold the bottom of the vent down with the left hand, and pull straight up with the right hand.
thank ya much...gonna give something a try..lol...
Ken
did the grass thing...pulled right off.....sweet !!!
But I'm left handed? ???

I was going to say that I tried the palm over the vent while on grass method and it came right off.
I know this is an old thread but I couldn't find any answers anywhere else.
I purchased a new wood tab from Zavod, and have attempted to remove the plastic using the above method with no luck.
Is there a trick to this?
I used a thin pair of needle nose pliers to hold the tab just below the plastic, and another pair of needle nose pliers to remove it. Kind of a prying motion, one side at a time.

If you have a kettle pizza, get that sucker cranking and position your lid vent over the back where the flames are licking up then forget to close the lid vent. It will melt the plastic right off!!!
LOL!!

I did this the other day and it worked great. I had left the lid out in the sun for a bit. Not sure it that helped at all.
Thanks for the tips.
I put the lid on the grass, in the sun, then found a pvc pipe fitting that is the same size as the damper

Pushed down hard with one hand, then pulled the tab off gentlt but firmly with a side to side motion
