Really gives a nice big concentrated area of blazing hot heat. I should mention too, although unplanned, it perfectly took a full chimney of charcoal.

I'd like to do this when I get some free time and the requisite expanded steel, wire, and a new cut off wheel for my angle grinder.
I now have three ash can supports that lack ash cans (!) and since I don't think anyone sells just the ash bucket by itself, the support ring is scrap material looking for a project like this. Or maybe I'll just ramp it up and use all 3 for one basket, making it better insulated so as to concentrate the heat even more. Just talking out loud at this point.

I use this basket constantly and have to say it's well worth the little time and effort it took to put together, especially if you can put an otherwise useless ring to good use. I should point out there is one spot that you have to be careful with when you're bending the ring into shape.

You can get expanded metal at Lowe's and home Depot. 12 inch's X 2 ft for around 12$. I used it to make a charcoal basket for my mini wsm
