Title: '76-77 mbh blackie, unsullied
Post by: charred on August 01, 2017, 07:21:21 PM
Sorry for the less than ideal indoor night pics. When asked about the history of the grill, seller said he'd received it as an Xmas gift but already had a propane grill. I didn't ask the obvious ques.- Xmas of what year, exactly?  :-\

It's never been used. Nearly pristine but not quite. Close enough though. Bought assembled (caddywhompass!), no box.  :'(

I like the older black color like this more than the current black. Almost has a tinge of gray in it. Nice!

That's a beauty!
Crazy coincidence. Just picked up this 76/77 18" tonight. An hour and a half away but for $15 bucks I couldn't pass it up.

Was already in nice shape and cleaned up pretty easy.

(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170802/bcb9d6703b8f279b1b270efe0128c90d.jpg)The wheels are in good shape but the triangle has a little rust. Ash pan pretty good too although slightly stained. I can handle getting the rust off the triangle, but wondering how some members have gotten their dampers so shiny and how I can get stains out of the ash pan. Any advice would be welcome.

Nice pickup MrCharred....fine handle. So you got an 18 too? Was it from the same source?

Both are some beautiful black grills! On that 22", does that instruction sheet have a 1977 copyright on it? Looks like the same one that came with my '79 blue MBH.

@charred - Something really special about an unused 40+ year old kettle.  Congratulations.

@mcgolden - As long as the stains are not etched into the metal, they should polish right out.  Multiple applications of Mothers Aluminum polish, buffing after each application should do the trick. Same thing applies to the vents.  The best polish is Rolite Supra.  It is a aircraft aluminum polish that @zavod44 turned me on to.  It is really expensive but cuts down on the polishing time.

If there is heavy staining, grease or smoke buildup on the vents, hit them with #0000 steel wool. Use it in a circular motion.  Then use the polish.

Wow, you're not kidding. That polish is expensive stuff, but man it does an awesome job. Thanks for the advice.
