Title: Need 5 lb. propane tank for SSP. Best place to get?
Post by: Raindog on April 23, 2017, 09:46:10 AM
Need a 5 lb. propane tank for a SSP. WalMart has them for $50.00 which seems steep. What do you all suggest is best way for me to acquire one?

Several ways, ask on here as someone may have one, a local propane dealer may have or can order one, Google it for listing with prices, and last Amazon.
But remember they ate certified for X number of years.
One question do you own a propane grill? If so you can by a adapter hose to hook up your 20lb bottle to your SS grill. One less bottle to fill, and deal with.

Thanks Easy. I just picked up my first SSP gas assist minus tank and wanted to use 5 lb tank as was original equipment. I did web search and was surprised to find the 5 lb tanks cost more than the larger ones. May have to just bite the bullet and get one at Wally World  :)

Yeah I had a SS red and had to replace the tank they were expensive, I got mine for a bit less at a propane dealer, got lucky but that was many years ago.
50-55 sounds about right these days.

Check your local Ace Hardware.  The ones around here have the 5# tanks on clearance for around $40.
Alternatively you could convert to #1 tanks.

Do you have an old tank? You can exchange it at Wal-Mart etc.

I had to convert my redhead SSP to a 1Lb bottle because I couldn't get the 5Lb that I had certified. Made a bracket to mount it under the original panel:

I can only post one pic at a time for some reason, please bare with me.

someone here hipped me to True Value online and I usually jump on lump when they have $20 off $100 deals. I dunno, maybe you might need some grates etc. to combine the order to get the discount?

This might work and isn't too expensive for a bracket-

I recently bought a new Manchester 5lb tank ($55) and quick connect attachment ($20) online from Ace; do a quick google and you'll find a coupon for $15 off $75.  It came out to around $65 total with tax.  I've done that twice for two different SSPs.

My dad has this grill, No one refills that tanks anymore. Not enough demand for that size @ Walmart.
Looks like Weber needs to go to big bottles? Go back to drawing board on we're to put big bottle @???

Any RV dealer that sells propane will fill them. it's usually cheapest place in town too.
