I was doing a bit of spring cleaning in the basement and organized my stash of charcoal. Total came to 600lbs: (21) KBB, (7) kcomp, (3) Royal Oak Lump, (2) Stubbs. I'm running low on lump so I think that is all I'm buying this summer. What is in your stash?
6 bags of Stubbs
6 twin packs of kbb, 1 1/2 bag of Stubbs, 1 box of lump. I believe this year when the sales hit, I will load up more on Stubbs than any other. I tend to do more lownslow and prefer it over kbb.

This is genius. Ill be going by home depot today to pick up a can.
10 bags kbb. 6 bags stubbs.
What's the biggest difference between kbb and Stubbs. I christened my new and first performer on Easter with some ribs, with the slow-n-sear , since then have used it about every other day. Love it. Have only used kbb, some apple and cherry wood, what am I missing out on??

The difference is obvious when you smell them burn. The binders in KBB put off a distinctive chemical aroma while burning that is absent from most other briquettes, including KComp & Stubbs. Stubbs produces a more pleasing, woody aroma that is imparted into the food, to some degree. IMO, Stubbs briquettes are an excellent choice when you want a smokey flavor and the more even heat production that briquettes provide over lump. I also really like KComp, but for a somewhat different reason. KComp generates good, even heat with little ash while imparting almost no smoke flavor itself. This allows the user to create the smoke profile they want with wood chunks, rather than augmenting the charcoal's profile with wood. Just my two cents. Others may be able to provide a better answer.
I just picked up 8 bags of the new Basques briquettes, this is definitely my new favourite briquette.

how much did you get it for? just looked it up seems kinda pricy
11 bucks per bag(17.6lbs), Here I would pay $11.98 for Kingsford(15.4 lbs), $8.98 for Royal Oak(15.4lbs),$12. 99 for MapleLeaf(17.6lbs).

IMO, those are good prices for
quality charcoal briquets.
Is anyone else changing up their buying habits this year?
I have found that I go through the Stubb's more because I do a lot of low and slow cooks. I'll be stocking up more on that this year.

Don't forget these prices are Canadian dollars.
I think I'll just continue to buy Stubbs. Familiar with it and it's a fabulous fuel. Down to 6 bags now in my stash.

Id rather not say... another way ti say it would be...we are nit concerned about power outages and not being able to cook
I got the Coshell on sale and got 5 bags. picked up a twin of kbb when I was on sale. after I finished the 1st bag of Coshell I cracked a bag of the kbb. I like the Coshell a lot more a lot larger so in one chimney I use less. too bad it went out the window
i ran out of lump one time

Since we are back to charcoal coking again after years of using a gas grill, I am seeing Kingsford coals everywhere. Generally we get a 2-pak of 19.5 lbs for under $20 in places like Sams Club, BJs Wholesale and Costco. Can someone tell me the difference between the Original and Competition coals? Both are readily available in my area, so is one better than the other?
